I can’t say that this will help you, but I have used this saying to work on my own anxiety issues and it kinda sorta helps a little bit like ointment on a burn when I become extremely anxious about whether or not I did something to upset other people:

Everyone is too busy worrying about how the world judges them that they don’t have the time and energy to judge you.

I know OCD isn’t as easy as “just change your mindset, broooo”, but if that line can help you in any way during episodes where you’re fearful you did something wrong, then take it!

It doesn’t fix anxiety, but it can help a little. And in my case it reminds me that I’m not the only anxious person out there xD

I can 100% promise you that nothing about that situation was weird or wrong. We have all done goofed at one point or another with bathrooms. I have walked into the men’s bathroom at least once when I was about to burst at a train station and the signing was piss poor (pun intended).

I am 100% sure that the people in the situation you were in thought you were a nice, polite young man and they most likely thought nothing of it.

Urgh, I hope things turn out right in the end! It sounds exhausting to be German these days. As one of your close neighbors (Denmark) I have always admired the Germans for the wisdom they have carried from ww2 and how it is reflected in art and politics through the decades. Also your ability to not just rebuild yourselves from a horrific past, but earn your place in the European hierarchy in the modern day. I’m not sure I’m replying correctly to your question, but the Roman letters can be traced back to Egyptian hieroglyphs and those were based on physical forms.

My favourite is the ox head - alp - which was representation for the letter A. If you look at A, you will notice, that if you flip it on its head, it looks like a simplified ox head. That it directly traced back to “alp”. I don’t remember the origin of each letter, I have followed a guy called Useful Charts for yeeeeears and he made a video on the evolution of the alphabet and also made a poster that you could/can(?) buy. Which is so cool, honestly.

Not all letters can be traced all the way back to Egyptian hieroglyphs, but a surprising amount can and they all represent objects that the common man recognized at the time and it helped with comprehension.

People have already explained very articulately that killing an animal for food is different from fucking it for pleasure and dominance. Because let’s be real, that is the only reason why anyone would ever rape an animal.

The German version is art house, with the camera and soundscape designed to emulate the angel’s experience, observing humanity. The soundscape is constant whispers of thoughts and wprries the people of Berlin carry with them in their daily lives. Everyone is lonely and isolated from the other despite living in a big city. The world is black and white. He becomes more and more tempted by humanity, to live like them and just like the mermaid, the death nail is when he falls in love with a human and he accepts the mortal life to have a chance to be a part of humanity and to be with the one he loves.

You know what, I don’t even even think Nick Cage is ugly. He has his charm for sure. But he does not pull off ethereal beauty. And he shouldn’t have to. The German angel was played by Bruno Ganz (same guy who played Hitler in Der Untergang🤌), who isn’t exactly beautiful, but he has a warmth to him that feels comforting and that’s the point of the angels in the German version.

But the American version constantly has other characters point out how otherworldly beautiful the angel is and Nick Cage, bless him, does his best to make the soft pretty boy look that Brad Pitt made in Meet Joe Black, but he just looks like a predator when he tries and it is so fucking funny.

The American version also fails to comment on the theme of the all consuming loneliness we humans are bound to feel because oral communication can only take us so far in terms of making ourselves understood to another. There are many themes that are pretty cool to dig into in Der Himmel über Berlin. I’ll never watch it again, though, because I hate ASMR-type shit and everybody is ASMR-whispering in that film and it is nails on a chalkboard for me. It was near impossible for me to finish it, but it isn’t a bad film and i like the overall idea even if the sounds of whispering people almost made me gag. Also, Nick Cave and Peter Falck have a few cameos. So there’s that. 👍
