As a talk back user, this is really handy. However, I will say that these speech models do not work very well at high speech rates, which is what I need for a screen reader user.

It is definitely much better quality, though. That’s for sure.

Also, for some reason it seems to skip letters sometimes. As an example when I turn on TalkBack foss or turn off TalkBack foss, it says “alkback foss turned on” or when i first opened thunder (lemmy client) it said “under”. Or at least that’s what it sounded like.

I will have to play with different models, but so far my favorite is English HFC female.

I am not sure whether I will use this as my day to day text a speech engine with my screen reader as of right now but I will definitely be keeping a close eye on this one because I really do like what I hear so far.

Edit: It could be that the model is trying to start talking before the speaker is ready, because it seems like it only has a big effect when you’re moving to a new element in TalkBack, which means that the system has to turn on the speaker first.

Honestly i think id look at SimpleX instead. Matrix does not encrypt metadata and that’s not a good thing.

I remembered why I turned off the show available updates toggle and that’s because I really don’t want the notifications telling me which apps are updating or have been updated in my notifications. It would be a nice addition if there was a page in the app that showed recent updates.

Okay, that worked. I thought that toggle gave you a notification when updates were available to install.

It was being shown, but it is not being shown. I’ve checked multiple times.

Edit: Either I found a bug or I’m on a newer version or something that has made a change.

I primarily just use element, although I have been moving away from Matrix more and more in favor of SimpleX chat, because it has better privacy.

I don’t because I’m concerned that they would use my generous gift to just go out and buy drugs. And that may be cruel of me. But I would rather donate to a charity that feeds the homeless, such as a soup kitchen. Or if I see somebody that would look hungry, I would rather buy them a meal directly than give them the money for it.

Point taken, LOL. But at least you get notifications. At least on Android. As I said, I have no idea whether it works on iOS or not.

I know Thunder on Android has push notifications because it checks once every 15 minutes for anything new. But I do not know about iOS.

Ripple does actually use the blockchain. It’s called the Ripple ledger. Its symbol is XRP and you can buy it

That’s a good point. Wouldn’t it have to have a mailbox though? Or is that something that the post office just does if you buy a piece of property without one already there?
