Icons on desktop are actually useful. It’s much easier to find an icon on a desktop than on a dock, because you have two dimensions instead of one. And it’s infinitely easier to find an icon and click on it than to type a name of a program into Dmenu. But yes, icons do look bad.

nah, pin most used programs to the taskbar, second most used to the app launcher, everything else can be searched for. No need to go back to the desktop to launch something.
