That one is so odd because I just think confusion was what they were going for, at least when copying the original recipe. The original recipe specified the use of “German’s Sweet Chocolate”.
Which also isn’t German, but named after a guy called Samuel German. But they dropped the possessive s and nobody wonders why a German cake would contain pecans.
