They don’t need to think fast. Some experts say we have up to 50 years of oil left. Middle eastern countries only think of short term profits.
Rent out quaint summer vacation homes. Much like people in Maine do now, 100 years after the whale oil industry became obsolete.
Basically, america will “take back” democracy. Since the 1900s or so, america has tried really hard to export “democracy” to countries around the world. Unfortunately it has only been “successful “ in countries that have lots of oil. So when the oil runs out, america will take back its “democracy”.
It’s why Dubai is trying to become some sort of hot travel destination.
I can’t imagine why anyone would want to go there, but it seems to be working on some people.

Though very probably, the U.S. would find yet another reason to keep genociding them. If oil was out of the picture (and, mind you, it seems to me very unlikely that’ll happen any time in even the remotely distant foreseeable future), it’s very plausible the U.S. would launch crusades 2.0 and keep killing them in the name of Jebus. Or keep killing them because “terrorism”. Or make up a whole new reason to keep killing them.
