    When visiting the US I noticed that many restaurant menus were omitting any trailing zeros, and in the years since I’ve started seeing it on some menus over here in the UK.

    The reason for that is marketing, because ‘simplifying’ the number and making it shorter makes it seem psychologically less expensive.

    It may be that this pattern of simplification is catching on in wider contexts - intentionally or otherwise.
