It’s really not needed, though, in light of https://comma.ai’s offline, open-source Openpilot self-driving dashcam modules. Maybe it’s for software updates but those can be passed online.
I’m gonna guess that Rivian will still eventually secretly log telemetry again despite this claim.
I doubt it needs a constant connection, but maybe it needs periodic calibration or something that requires an internet connection 🤷♂️
