I’m reminded of an exercise we did when I was in 9th grade: “Write down how much money you want to make per year!” What a pointless exercise. I had no idea how much things cost. Inflation is a thing. And I ended up moving to an area that was much more expensive than where we lived while I was in school. I’m pretty sure my first real job out of grad school paid more than what I had written down, but I certainly wasn’t rolling in cash.
The most popular car sold in 1990 was the Honda accord, which cost around 12,000 brand new. It is totally fair to say that it cost at least $75, maybe even $100.
