    Apples and other fruits naturally emit ethylene gas. If you ever stored apple with other fruits,you exposed those fruits to ethylene gas.

        I’m genuinely curious what it is

        Because ethylene is produced by fruits during and after ripening. There’s no human health risk associated with it (especially since it doesn’t stick around inside the fruit)
