  • It has to do with Linux.

Linux itself is not a fully fledged operating system as most people would expect it. Since Linux has to work on servers and microchips as well as on desktop PCs, lots of stuff is not shipped with it.

For example Linux is missing a way to display windows and has no real package manager.

A distro (or distribution) is a predefined set of of software, that makes it easier for a user to use Linux.

This is mostly a window manager or desktop environment like KDE or GNOME, a package manager like apt or pacman and useful software like an office suite, a browser and other stuff.

Distros also exist for servers, the ln they don’t include a way to display images, but still have a package manager and other useful stuff preinstalled.

That’s of course not all, but maybe gives you a little overview.

  • Oh yes, why would I apply a security patch for Bluetooth which I don’t even use, on my life-supporting device which someone else could connect to via Bluetooth without me knowing or noticing?

What you are saying is far from reality. Most patches only state vague stuff like “security” or “Bluetooth”.
How would you know, what those mean? Bluetooth could be “Hey, you can now monitor even more with your app” or “fixed some big holes in the chips security which made it hack able via Bluetooth”.

  • Okay, so I upgraded our server and tested Element X and it is really basic at the moment and also has rich text mode as input mode. This was already buggy in element, but had to be toggled on. Now it’s always there and has errors…

Try doing a line break after an emoji and then write something, to see what I am talking about.
