  • Checkmate I’m vegan so I don’t have to worry about that. My spouse used to work in a winery that had a chicken coop and bring home many boxes of eggs for free before I went vegan, and you could keep them on the counter. Room temperature fresh eggs beat grocery store eggs by a million years for cooking with, go to a farm and buy a few boxes, they keep a very long time, and learn how to make Frank Prisinzano’s crispy egg recipe.

  • I didn’t think anyone actually won Instagram contests, but my spouse won a magnum of locally roasted coffee which is lovely, and a free Valentine’s dinner at a very nice restaurant in Buffalo. I won a board game called Scruples for answering some ethics question in a column in the newspaper the Globe and Mail. Many years ago before it became what it is now.

I worked at Starbucks 25 years ago, when it was actually not a bad job and had some nice perks and was actually pretty good to work for. There was a game called Cranium that was sold through Starbucks then, and there was a contest for staff for a draw to win a VW bug with Cranium decals on it, and amazingly my coworker one, the decals could be removed. It was actually pretty nice.

  • Literally someone joked “don’t Woody Allen me” and this account went off with a bunch of “facts”. It was super odd.

When I was on Reddit I was talking about Jian Ghomeshi’s sexual abuse charges on r/Canada (before it got overrun by racists), and a sock puppet account sent me the weirdest PM, about how I wanted to “touch the diamond that is Jian’s life, but holding a melting diamond in your hands is dangerous” or some such shit. I actually feel it was Jian Ghomeshi because it was so narcissistic and weird. I could of course be wrong, but I really think it was. The wording was just too weird.

  • The Reddit exodus post API changes. I honestly have found it quite nice by and large, other than a couple of idiots in my inbox, including the person a couple of weeks ago who told me they reported me to the FBI because of some post I made re Luigi and the CEO shooting, although I don’t know which one. It’s funny because I actually have a relationship with the FBI for other reasons (yes really truly), and I just asked them if they wanted me to put them in touch with my agent, LOL.

  • A friend: if they are immigrants on a work visa, barely know you, and are pushing you to marry them to stay in the country, and also give you an STD and still refuse to wear condoms? Bad. My friend was rather an insecure person and considering this until she asked me for advice and I said that it was a bad idea. I do understand the plight of an immigrant but this was just wrong.

Another friend: their boyfriend would ask them if he could take her Ritalin some days, and she was dealing with a personal struggle with alcoholism and would just say “ok sure I guess I just won’t take it today” because she felt like she couldn’t say no. He also did not call an ambulance when she had a seizure and eventually she was discovered to have an aneurysm that needed immediate evacuation, and she feels that was maybe because he beat her during a time when she was too drunk to remember and gave her a head injury, as she has a recording of something on her phone. Do not be with someone who will supply your addictions. Thankfully she got sober and got out.

Me: if from the get go his mother is rude to you despite you being a polite and eager to please person, and when you finally say something to him about how she’s being rude to you, and his only answer is to say “yeah, my mother can be very rude” in a tone that says this is the way it is and he sees nothing wrong with it, and does nothing to defend you from her behaviour or address it, that’s bad. If he’s cavalier about money and finances and his significant debt, and goes out behind your back and spends a lot of money and when you object says it’s his “character flaw”, or when he goes out behind your back and spends 3000 dollars on furniture you haven’t even seen, and when you get mad and are angry at him for a while says “when are you going to take me off the cross?”, as if you’re the one with the problem? That’s bad. If he gets suspended and also fired from work and lies to you and dodges the truth about why, that’s bad. If a million other bad things happen, that’s bad. If you break down and tell someone about how bad things are in your relationship, and he finds out and tells you that you should have kept it to yourself and “worked it out together” despite being super violent, manipulative, and puts you in a bad financial position because of it? That’s bad. If you ever feel in danger and scared to come home, look at your texts from him, or spend any money, that’s bad.

  • Antivaxxers and weaponized disinformation that leads to that as well as other problems. I’m not talking about the vaccine hesitant who come around with more education by their doctor, or even the dumbass delayed vaccine schedules they want to do for no sensible reason, all it does is make your kid cry more times than they’d have to, I’m talking about the ones who completely believe in Andrew Wakefield’s shit study with the twelve kids at his son’s birthday party which for some reason they rely upon as the gospel. The ones who are now turning down vitamin K in their newborn so they risk bleeding into their brain, and believe measles isn’t a big deal, just another childhood illness. They’re absolutely insane and fed a diet of this continually by social media dumpster fires like Facebook. As far as I am concerned, Mark Zuckerberg should be tried for war crimes and genocide at the Hague. Here is a comment I saw the other night from one of the plague enthusiasts, which also makes it very clear they don’t care if non-white children die.

I worked in an ER ten years ago, and while the insanity that has onset with these people since the advent of COVID did not yet exist, there were still some who bought into this nonsense, and they’d come screaming in with their kid who was going downhill fast with whooping cough or whatever, and they are always the most obnoxious pushy people about getting their kid seen RFN. And the thing is you have to because an unvaccinated child has no immune resources to rely upon in their bodies, which one nurse describes as “going to the well”, ie a normal vaccinated person’s body fights back against infection by doubling their heart or breathing rate as their antibodies kick in. A child with no immunity immediately begins to go under and has no such help from their bodies. And the parents are always massive idiots and ask stupid shit about why you aren’t treating them with intravenous vitamin C or doing a CT scan (which there is no reason for) or whatever else they pull out of their primitive forebrains full of garbage. A child with Hib epiglottitis is not going to be able to be intubated and is going to need a tracheostomy, and these parents simply don’t or won’t understand it.
