  • I use walmart for a select few items that are recurring monthly because I can’t get them at any other store locally. I don’t do shipping anymore because often when something is delivered it’s an individual driving for some reason (had a like 3$ item the store was out of stock with, next day some poor soul had to drive it all the way out to my place to deliver a piece of plastic)

The App for Walmart is the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever ran into! It just keeps getting worse month after month, pages of sponsored items when searching (which reloads sponsored content again when loading more results), video after video completely fucking the app up with lag. You can’t filter by unit price anymore, constant pop ups for Walmart+, trash sidescroll recommendations literally every few results, and even selecting “in-store” gets bullshit results and recommendations that have to be shipped.

  • I realized a few weeks ago, when a question was asked about what all the off-shoots of the fediverse were, that the “lemmy-style” of social media is the only one I like (piefed, etc included). I realized all the other ones focused on “following users” which is why I never got into them. I use voyager a lot to lurk when I’m away from the pc and it doesn’t even show who posts it.

I just have no desire to follow an individual, company, influencer, or celebrity shit. I’m here for the content, poster be damned (but respectfully appreciate their contribution). I want a subscription feed based off of categories, just wish there was a video platform that did the same thing (I was always horrible about not using subscription feed for youtube and mostly only used it for local and news).

  • so I’m not sure what you’re replying too because the comment was deleted but I’ve always been fascinated by the instance-hating and what causes it. Like a particular mod, admin, or even community you’ve interacted with, I kinda get. But the broader instance thing is just… interesting.

I don’t know if piefed.social has a different kind of setup, but I’m not bombarded with a lot of what instance-haters report to have happening. I’m not getting personal messages or stickied posts on my feeds, it’s basically the same all feed when I use any other instance just browsing without a login (I like to visit places like lemmy.today and their sick ass layout on tablet). My subscription feed would be the same regardless as well if I migrated. I found myself on .ml because years ago instances weren’t as reliable with downtime or loaded slowly/error-ed but .ml was always responsive and up for me. The only reason I’ve stayed is because of people who hate .ml actually, like you don’t look down on someone because of the neighborhood they live in do you? For those that automatically block an entire instance, I’m just kinda glad I don’t have to deal with them in that sense.

I also might be missing part of your modlog if it’s not showing for me but I only see 5 bans for “anti-ai troll” 2 months ago and 3 for “Pro-Zionist debate/apologia” 9 days ago. The 3 recent are easy to figure out because of the lengthy comments you had in the crazy ass post “Update: anarchist.nexus has been refederated” (I tried to stay away from that because it all looked heated at the time lol). The 2 months ago is easy to find if you manipulate your profile link with changing comment page numbers by 5’s and just look at the dates. You commented on a post that was cross-posted to several of the lemmy.dbzer0.com communities saying anti-ai stuff and got banned several minutes after that. (I’m not a mod of these communities so not judging or stating whether the ban’s were valid, just sharing why they probably happened).

  • What no one is mentioning is that it highly depends on what type of system your pipes lead to. If you’re on a sewer system with newer pipes you’re ok with letting it fly dirty mostly. If you’re at an older house with cast-iron pipes and a septic system it’s best to wipe them off. I just use a spatula when I’m done eating and wipe it off into the trash. My systems a little different with a monster of a grease trap that I don’t want to have to get pumped again anytime soon so probably more picky about it than others.

Same kinda thing goes for garbage disposals, don’t put food down it if you’re on septic. Then again it all depends on amount of usage and if you mind paying to pump it sooner.

  • nah, you just have an abysmal reading comprehension and can’t understand the original comment

What people are posting and linking isn’t “unproven”. They’re factual events that took place and their opinion on the matter which you seem to have a problem with both.

I’ll go really slow for you… the facts… that people are speculating with… have been shown with sources. Some opinions… are that it looks suspicious… and wouldn’t be surprised… if the administration performed a false flag.

Have a good one man, not worth continuing to communicate with someone that plenty of others have given up on.

  • If you have space outside, plant native trees/vines/bushes that will help shade the building from the sun if you’re getting direct sunlight. You can just do clippings from wild growing plants for free.

timing of the windows opening and closing is key. Also tracking temperature helps, just a crappy thermometer (one indoors and one outside not in sunlight) will let you know when it’s time to open or close up.

Concrete/bricks work both ways as a thermal mass, if you can get them cool and covered from the sun it will help cool your area (think of cold concrete floors, I have an inner brick wall that an extension was built out on and it stays coolish). Same with water, most have experienced a cold water pool/pond on a hot day, big blocks of frozen ice can do the trick if you stick to freezing at night.

    Free stuff:

    • No/less electronics during the day (tvs/chargers/computer), it all adds to the heat
    • no cooking during day, cold cuts/food only till night
    • Take a nap during the hottest part if possible, or just sleep in daytime and move about at night on off days (something about waking up after a nap makes it seem less overbearing)
    • do maintenance on your fans, take them apart and clean/grease anything that needs it (will need to clean more often if you lubricate due to dust build up causing gunk)

Black-out curtains are great to stop light, but if it’s entering the window already it’s just heating up that one spot so you’re still technically getting the thermal radiation. For that fix you would want reflective window covers, even foil would technically help slapped to the window (it’s the only time those reflective insulation boards actually do anything with infrared). Foil with something behind it to insulate, like literally anything (cardboard wrapped in plastic to air seal can even do it), then you can take down your contraption at night to let air through to cool.

Insulating and air sealing. Alternatively, air flow in any spots building more heat than the outside temp (like an attic or upstairs area). If it’s a family owned place it’s easier, renting you might have to address concerns with landlord.

Currently temps in my area are getting about 95f(35c) daytime and 65f(18c) to 60f(15c) at night. I can usually get my house down to 68ish(20c) before the sun comes up. Windows in a bottom floor with fans pointing in, any windows upstairs with fans blowing out (hot air rises, it’s the same technique for american colonial/victorian houses with dormers emulating ancient style architecture for passive cooling). If it’s single story just be aware of wind direction if you’re using the fan method and point some in where the wind is blowing and pointing out at the opposite side. My house will at max hit about 80f(26c) but by then it’s time to open the windows because the sun has set.

At some point, once true-true summer hits, the nights will be about 80f(26c) and over 100f(38cish) during the day. At that point regulating your body and getting used to the temps is key and an A/C or sometype of ground thermal air flow is the only way you’re going to make anything cool. If you’re using A/C just seal the crap out of your windows with plastic and/or insulation (remember condensation like an ice cup though will cause moisture and mold/mildew growth on the exterior if not done properly). Pick a room that keeps the coldest and put whatever you can on the walls and windows (even a quilt on the walls will help insulate some). Seal up as much as possible and hide from the heat.
