I haven’t been banned from either, but I have had .ml mods remove comments speaking negatively of hexbear based on completely imaginary rules that aren’t listed anywhere. Meanwhile, in that same discussion, hexbear users were brigading me and making literal death threats and their comments were allowed to remain.
I think there’s a huge difference between seeing opposing ideas and just seeing a bunch of propaganda and brigading.1
Yeah same here. I didn’t even bother putting out Christmas lights this year even though we made a bunch of custom decorations a few years back.
I finally bought some rechargeables again this year after shunning them years ago but that’s just because I 3D printed a bunch of Christmas lights that have battery powered RGB pucks inside them.
Funnily enough, I started with all alkaline until the rechargables came in the mail at which time I replaced half of them with rechargeables which have already died and needed recharging before the other half with the original alkaline have needed to be replaced.
Previously, the only really good use I had for them was with my old Xbox 360 controllers since I could have a pair on the charger while using the other pair.
That’s like 5x the cost though and you’re likely to break anything you drop onto it like dishes or bottles.
Our kitchen has laminate plank flooring and it has held up really well. I believe it’s original which means it’s made it 22ish years so far with part of that time being a rental full of college kids who apparently stored all their literal garbage in the garage and put a bunch of holes in the walls.
What else are you going to put in the kitchen though, carpet?

Currently with friends and their kids for Halloween and one parent in the group won’t allow their kids to dress up for religious reasons. Some of the other kids in our group kept asking the older one what she’s dressed up as (in her normal clothes) and she finally just yelled out “our savior!” (obviously reacting from a tough spot as the kids who stand out from the rest based on their parents’ decisions). Apart from that it could be for financial reasons.
In any case I don’t see why people get so stingey with Halloween candy if a kid isn’t dressed up enough. You’re giving it out anyway. Razzing seems fine though and this isn’t intended to criticize you but more just tangential soap boxing.

Not entirely a ‘car accident’ but I was driving down the interstate and narrowly dodged a shovel head (the handle had broken off) sitting in the far left passing lane in a construction zone. The car behind me hit it and I watched in my rear view mirror as it flew up in the air and traveled all the way over to the right side travel lane and fucking demolished the windshield of a car. I was expecting the car to jerk and swerve from the driver freaking out from this object falling out of the sky right into their windshield, but they just very calmly merged to the shoulder and stopped.
The other one was me barely missing an empty pallet sitting in the middle of my lane when it was dark out and seeing the headlights of the car tailgating behind me do a complete 360 as they tried to dodge it. If they’d left a little more room between us they probably could have followed my lead and drove around in, but their short following distance left no time for them to react.
It also screws with post sorting on the front page since Lemmy still doesn’t have a high enough rate of new posts/comments.

FYI if you get a FHA loan, you can’t remove the PMI at all without refinancing. This was implemented after the crash in '07/'08. You can still get a conventional loan without doing the full 20%. I put around 10% down and just dropped PMI after about 4 years, though I likely could have removed it earlier if I’d paid for a new appraisal due to the increased property value.

Mythbusters did a test of poop particles on toothbrushes stored in areas all around their workshop and IIRC, the one in the bathroom actually had one of the lowest amounts of poop particles on it.
Our kid is kinda spoiled and also needs her stuff purged every now and then. It’s pretty easy to tell which toys she cherishes and which ones have been sitting in pieces in the bottom of a tub for the last 6 months. I’m sure most people that do this will get their kid involved in the process. Hoarding can also lead to lasting effects as an adult. Imagine what their friends and classmates think about the clutter when they see or hear about it.
