  • 1500$ because you don’t have bulk parts, otherwise it could go down by a significant amount.

However, the 5k doesn’t include all the hours of engineering, which costs a lot more than the hardware.

With that said, you are absolutely right that we get dog shit computers for the price. The amount of hours I’ve spent in my life reducing the cost for a board is insane. And bear in mind that this wasn’t for high volume production neither where hardware cost reductions have a big impact.

I hope that this guy go on to do his own thing and doesn’t get gobbled by the corporate machine (or become the corporate machine).

  • There are a lot of open source mechanical keyboards out there and with a bit of elbow grease, anyone that is a little bit tech savvy can figure out how to link all the information together and do something with that.

However, the thing that stands out to me is the integration of all the parts.

Integration between hardware and firmware is a bitch, and add to that the mechanical integration as well. This dude hopefully has a bright future ahed of him, because he certainly has the chops.

  • This is why I prefaced my comment with the old man bit. There is a lot of exaggeration in my comment.

My experiences has been that meat substitutes marketed as such are usually chuck full of spices, ultra-processed and just taste bad on their own. 95% of the recipes I make with meat, I often replace with a vegan alternative protein.

I do think that vegan brands try to appeal to a lot of meat eater and lean hard on the green/healthy marketing, but it has been played out and abused by marketing and doesn’t mean much anymore. Just market the products on their own merits.

There is so much good vegan food out there, but it’s often branded as the X alternative. IMO, it hurts the product because it pidgeon hole it in that comparison.

But your points are entirely valid, and my point are really just an uneducated opinion without backing data. I just know that I avoid vegan products marketed as meat alternative to X because they taste terrible 99% of the time.

  • My old man yelling at cloud rant :

    1. i hate vegan products that try to position themselves as the vegan replacement to a non vegan product. They have their own qualities, and it hurts the product that it is compared to the meat alternative. If someone wants to eat chicken, no amount of marketing and spices will make it taste like chicken and will always be inferior to their meat counterparts for the meat eater.

    2. Vegan recipes on internet are 95% terrible. They try to put 100 flavors in one meal. Take whatever recipe your normally eat with meat and simply replace the protein for a vegan protein of your choice (pvt, tofu, bean curds, etc). Grill your tofu to your heart content, make that bean curd extra delicious by dunking it in soy sauce and eat with vegetables and rice or make a simple rice and bean with a side of fresh avocado.

    3. There are so many good vegan products with fucking terrible marketing. Meat eaters will not change their habits because you green wash your marketing. Go balls to the wall with that shit.

  • The direction that the company is taking. Clearly that Bitwarden feels like other open source projects are diverting revenue from them.

That’s a small step towards enshittification. They close this part of the software, then another part until slowly it is closed source.

We’ve seen this move over and over.

Stopping your business with Bitwarden over that issue sends a message that many customers don’t find this acceptable. If enough people stop using their service, they have a chance to backtrack. But even then, if they’ve done it once, they’ll try it again.

Your current price is 10$/year now. But the moment a company tries to cull any open source of their project is the moment they try to cash it in.

  • The analgesics today are really good, so you won’t feel much, just pressure as the dentist drills through the roots.

Otherwise, tell your dentist if you feel anxious or afraid, they are pretty used to that and will generally try to make you comfortable.

Afterward, your gum will be a bit sensitive, but your tooth won’t hurt since you don’t have nerves endings anymore.

    You got this.

Cubicles farm are worst than high school. There is an ever ongoing political tug of war for pretty much every little fucking detail, and someone is always trying to tell you that you do your job wrong

Multinational companies are even worst because you have to fight off the other offices trying to meddle with your office to get what they want.

And then, when someone breaks because of the constant bickering, people come and tell them they are wrong for breaking.

Your whole post is a prime example of that.
