What do you think you are changing when your electoral logic is, “fall in line vite blue no matter who” including fucking genocide. Who would ever take you seriously? You think they’re going to do anything to “win your vote”? Genocide apologist, they know they already have it. You announced you were giving it to them free of charge, that you will tolerate anything they do and still vote for them, and are actually pressuring others to do the same on their behalf.

The correct time to express such thoughts is during a primary. We didn’t have one because we had an incumbent; it happens.

The better place to have this fight is through congress anyways. They’re the ones that actually approve the aid.

Better yet, go talk to the Israel people and get them to vote for someone that stops using our weapons in such an offensive manor. Israel knows that their position is critical to the US interest and their current leaders are happy to exploit that.

Literally, abstaining makes you part of the “party of not voting” and nobody does anything for them, because they don’t vote.

We are literally in a battle for our ability to vote.

Abstaining from said battle is effectively saying “I don’t care” and letting Trump do what he will. If he chooses to send nukes to Palestine to end the conflict immediately, that’s on everyone that abstained. If he ends aid to Ukraine and those people die, that’s on everyone that abstained.

If he ends voting, you “won some moral battle” but you’ve all but permanently lost the war against genocide as the most powerful military and weapons on the planet are now in the hands of an authoritarian, raciest, fascist, regime that previously imposed a “Muslim ban” and I’m sure would happily do so again.

There is no hypocrisy here, and it’s disingenuous to imply there is.

If you want to protest genocide, then GO DO IT, don’t throw away a vote because that’s not a protest, it’s a pathetic excuse.

You know, you can find something evil in just about any politician’s policy depending on your personal perspective.

So let’s just not vote, because we shouldn’t choose. We should just morally abstain from having choices because making no choice is the only way to make a choice.

Your vote is not your consent; that’s some nonsense made up to get people to not vote.

In your metaphor, you vote for one your family dies, you vote for another your family and another family dies. You refuse to participate in the system and both families die.

You didn’t consent to that, but you allowed it to happen via your vote of INDIFFERENCE which is what not voting means. It means you don’t care which way things go, because that’s all it can mean to not make a choice.

I mean, it’s also illegal to try and kill yourself, or do various other dangerous stuff. So… Maybe?

Plus, it’s not so much about the pedestrian safety as it is keeping traffic moving by stopping pedestrians from just walking out in front of cars wherever they please. I’m not sure how that precedent is set, since I assume most other countries also give pedestrians the right of way (in the places they’re supposed to cross).

Surely there’s some sort of “you can’t just jump out in the middle of traffic” law though? That’s basically what our jaywalking laws “do” (in the limited cases where they’re enforced).

There are of course the exceptions where someone gets a bit power trippy.

I found it weird that alcohol seemed to be sold only in liquor stores. But you can buy a machine gun in Walmart.

The food. Don’t get me wrong it’s nice and all but the quantity. Take sizzlers, you go in order your main meal then get an endless buffet for free. Like I couldn’t eat my steak when it arrived as I was full from the buffet.

Yeah buffets aren’t all that common… But they’re probably more common here (especially in touristy spots) than other countries.

Yeah… Especially in touristy spots and very urban spots some people don’t care. I’m assuming you’ve witnessed Florida man that cuts across 6 lanes of busy traffic.

I think the average American normally only jaywalks if the street is pretty much empty and they don’t feel like waiting 3 minutes for the light to change.

That is divisive even within the country.

I was raised in small town Ohio and taking your shoes off, especially in a strangers home (occasionally not in your own because of practicalities like going back and forth to unload the car), was considered part of common etiquette along with not wearing hats indoors.

Both of those things really depend on your family though as I’ve definitely met people that just don’t care.

You don’t need an epoxy of any sort for this … just a grinder, some more mortar, and a joiner.

This is just something that happens with masonry after decades.

One thing I’ve learned since becoming a home owner ~5 years ago… There’s a lot of stuff on the Internet that tries to get you to a point of hysteria.

This is the kind of stair step crack you need to worry about. It’s a big gap, many blocks, etc. It’s a sign part of your foundation is sinking.

What you have is a block missing some mortar and a crack below (which can happen if water gets into the block … which happens when you’re missing mortar). You can have someone look at it, but I think an honest contractor would tell you “get it repointed or do it yourself, keep an eye on it.”

That just looks like weathering. I have some similar cracks (… that I really do need to get to sooner or later…), it just needs repointed to prevent further water intrusion (take out the old mortar and put new mortar in).

I would not bother your insurance company with this.

I echo the suggestion to support local shops, but I do occasionally go with a larger chain… It’s not better pizza than the local shops it’s just a different pizza.

I tend to prefer Domino’s over Pizza Hut and especially over Papa John’s (something about their formulation tends to upset my stomach way more than any other pizza… Plus the former CEO is very active in politics and not in a way I approve of).

To my Domino’s tastes significantly better … Pizza Hut used to be great, but I’ve been thoroughly unimpressed every time I’ve tried it in recent memory.

There’s also local variance in these chains; some towns have a better Pizza Hut than Domino’s 🤷‍♂️

Just did a refresher per your request… We did not ever to my knowledge use civics tests. We used literacy tests and what made them particularly offensive was they had various exemptions for white people or simplified variants for white people.

I am very icy to the idea of tests in general due to the effects having a “test” to vote could have. However, having a very low bar test of some sort administered without exceptions … it might make sense.

We don’t let people drive whose eyes fail a safety test. Maybe we shouldn’t let people vote if they don’t even have a surface level understanding of what they’re voting for.

I’m not saying do it, but maybe we shouldn’t totally write it off because of some bad behavior without any safeguards to prevent bad behavior.

Maybe, but also maybe not. A test that’s targeted specifically at “do you understand how the government functions” is actually quite different from a lot of other tests and less likely to be subjective.

Like, if there was a question, what part of the government writes laws:

• Congress
• The President
• The Supreme Court

Yeah… Even as a third party, I definitely have not been enjoying the smell when I’ve bumped into it. I don’t think it should be a criminal offense, but I hope we can move past “I need to light a thing on fire and just screw up the air for everyone in my vicinity.”

That’s really not even close to the optimistic scenario. It’s arguably not even in the pessimistic scenario if you’re not just in the “make stuff up club.”

We’re talking at most half a meter of rise by 2050, at most 2 meters by 2100, at most 4 meters by 2150. The intermediate projection is a third of a meter by 2050. The optimistic projection (which we’re not going to hit) is 3/20th of a meter.

Climate change is real. The risk of famine is real. The risk of global conflict is real. The risk of trying storms is real. However, “doomsday everybody dies” is not really on any serious projections. The worst case is “a lot of people in a lot of poor nations die and rich nations have more wars and more immigration.”

For my grandfather… The issue wasn’t the shows, but he specifically wants a few news programs and will not under any circumstances go without them.

This was a problem for even going to Internet based streaming options because he just will not accept anything without those shows for more than a few months.

Meanwhile he also complains he doesn’t have enough to watch and says he can’t afford it (he can, he just doesn’t like what it cost)… But those dang news channels… and just his outlook on TV in general.

I think this is the main technology behind that and it is open source… I heard something about it years ago too. I’ve similarly never used it and am curious now that you mention it if anyone has. I’m unsure how to actually “use” ipfs and/or what tools might use it.

I’m kind of inclined to believe it doesn’t work (or doesn’t work well) otherwise it probably would be a bigger deal by now and there would be a lot to show off on the ipfs website.

Edit: It looks like this provides S3 compatible storage to IPFS. However, it seems more expensive than B2… So I’m not really sure why one would use it. You’d think IPFS would be attempting to undercut traditional providers.
