For what it’s worth, other Start menu replacements like Start11 and Open Shell’s menu aren’t on the list. This might genuinely be a compatibility-related blocker given that iCloud, EaseUS and certain drivers are also on the list.

I use a redirector extension for YouTube so PipedBot is useless and annoying for me. I’d rather someone just give me a YouTube URL and let the redirector extension do its work.

tbh I’ve yet to see a KeePass-based password manager that’s not clunky-feeling. Strongbox is probably the best one for that but that’s for the Apple ecosystem.

I won’t lie, I’m concerned for the long-term progress of the emulator. Yuzu and its ilk shined because of the talent backing it. That’s not to say Suyu won’t get such talent, but given that those involved in Yuzu/Citra won’t ever touch anything past maybe the Wii and emulator devs - even those unaffiliated with the Nintendo emulation scene - are getting scared right now, I’m not sure.

I use an iPad, am subscribed to Apple Music and also use a Hackintosh setup (aiming to replace it with a MacBook of some kind in the future).

• The tablet market is pretty much “ignore everything else and just buy an iPad”. There is no tablet really worth your time on Android, most of it is due to Google and the Android ecosystem practically abandoning the tablet form factor. Meanwhile Apple still supports the iPad to this day and there are plenty of great apps that support the iPad form factor, such as Mona for Mastodon
• I used to use Spotify for streaming, but found that it was getting increasingly annoying to use. So many long-standing bugs including one where if I download even one song on my phone that’s in my Liked Songs list, the entire app takes like 30 seconds trying to load it. Apple Music handles large lists so much better. The library management is also so much better than on Spotify too, with it basically just being “iTunes but as a streaming service” and I can have smart playlists for whatever purpose I want. Their consistency with regards to UX across the different target platforms aren’t great (iOS and Android can’t create or update smart playlists, Windows and Mac don’t have word-for-word lyrics) but even with all that, it’s the least annoying streaming service for me right now. (and yes, I maintain a local music library with MusicBee - streaming is helpful for discovery)
• I’ve been recently using my Hackintosh more and it was really comfy using it. I have issues focusing on a single task (which might be ADHD, might not be, idk) and the full-screen mode allows me to focus on the tasks on my screen.

As for your point on bloatware, this happens on Android too. I can’t remove Facebook, OneDrive or YouTube from my phone, only “hide” it. (Samsung btw)

DMCA aside (I doubt Nintendo wants to play the game of DMCA whack-a-mole) I think we should let the dust settle before moving along with other emulators. People are (rightfully) angry, but we can’t let that anger cloud our judgement.

This could very will be the successor to Citra, but there exists two other 3DS emulators and one other Switch emulator, so it’s not like those (emulated) consoles are going away soon. As long as they’re not gloating about running leaked games early, I guess they should be fine. I’m hearing that Yuzu went too close to the sun there.

The Lemmy instances that are popular right now likely won’t sell it like Reddit would. However, you don’t really need to, to grab publicly available data from Lemmy instances. The data is publicly available to view and for scrapers like Common Crawl (one of the datasets used for machine learning, used as one of the training datasets for GPT-3) to scrape. I don’t know if Lemmy allows admins to hide comments without an account or not.

Yup! The fishy glue smell is real, but there’s no legitimate reports of the Cybertruck emitting those, as much as people would believe that.

Someone on Bluesky claimed that the Tesla Cybertruck was emitting “human sewage” or “fishy glue” smells with a convincing edit of a Insider News article. Then they convinced me more by editing/making from fiction a Cybertruck owners discussion board to say someone was posting about their Cybertruck smelling like dog pussy. To be honest, when I saw that I should have known it was fake, but I can absolutely believe the Cybertruck smelling rancid from failing electronics.

I believed the fake article since I had a similar situation with a failing minifridge. There was a strong electronic smell coming from it and while it wasn’t really “fishy glue” I knew something was failing and disposed of it immediately. I also remembered a YouTuber having issues with her home wiring emitting a fishy glue smell.

Rate Your Music and MusicBrainz both use traditional forums, though I haven’t really posted in them lately. I also joined EndeavourOS’ forums at the time I joined Lemmy.

I’ve been having this weird issue with wifi where it will just switch itself off (shown in NetworkManager as “no available connections”) and not allow me to restart the OS normally. It’s like the driver is crashing or something. Hardware isn’t the issue, otherwise it would have happened on Windows. Drivers can be an issue, as NVIDIA users know too well. Games can be a bit choppy on Linux if you use ray-tracing, probably due to drivers as well as the intermediary processes for getting games to work like DXVK. This was my experience with Cyberpunk 2077. Game modding can be an issue due to .NET not being fully there yet, especially if you have games that are glitchy and require stability mods for a good experience. (e.g. any Bethesda game that exists.)

The only thing keeping me from full-timing Windows is the fact that Windows 11 just plain sucks. I feel like I have to use it, rather than want to use it. Compared to even a bog-standard KDE setup, the Windows experience is miserable. As for Mac, I have a Hackintosh but Apple really loves to render everything on the GPU side and it’s chugging my ol’ GPU. Maybe I need to go get an M-series MacBook this year.

Regarding point 2, this was why deadmau5 used Mac for a long time during his live gigs. He likes the predictability of a Mac, it makes it easy for him to get back going if something goes wrong.

He’s had to stop using it for the Cube stuff though, since it requires a lot of Windows software.
