I just buy refurbished/refreshed drives intentionally. Recently picked up a 20tb drive for just under $200, and get a 5 year warranty with them too.

I was a volunteer working at the first LinuxCon in 2009, I worked in the expo hall and at the end of the first day one of the booths had a raffle to win an android G1 developer phone and I ended up winning.

The best part was, by winning the phone instead of having to buy it through t–mobile I was able to keep my service without having to pay for adding data and it was a couple years before I had to actually start paying for data.

True but enough do that it annoyed me to the point of disabling the autofill on my system, so maybe for this person it would be an improvement

I don’t really see why getting attribution for a free project is so important to some people but if that’s what they want over people “stealing” their work (which will happen anyway) so be it.

On Linux most distros do not actually ship chrome but chromium which is the open source version of chrome.

It also comes down to how different groups define FOSS. GNU considers even helper programs (like a package manager or firmware installer) to be “bad” for the user because they “encourage” its use so they dont want them included in GNU approved distros like trisqul or guix . this leads to those “freedom respecting” distros not having things like basic WiFi drivers or support for any 3rd party drivers.

To a less extreme degree but similar is a distro like debian, where there is a “non_free” repository available but users can choose not to enable it.

And so GNU sees having the playstore as a bad thing because its gateway to installing other non free software. Its also safe to assume most gnu evangelists probably don’t care much for chromium either.
