The driving physics are sadly horrible on the PS1 version.
NFS4 is IMHO pretty close. The career structure is a bit different and while the tracks arent exclusively in europe a lot of them are. Be sure to check out both the PS1 and PC version. They’re similar but also quite a bit different. Maybe you like one better than the other.
In NFS HP2 you are more like a globetrotter with only a few greece based tracks. Career structure is a lot more arcadey. Imho still hits a similar vein. Be sure to play/emulate the PS2 version which is way better.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 has the entire island of Ibiza to drive on. Its not exactly an euro trip. But its pretty good at making you feel like you are on vacation with expensive cars to chill out with.
Then there is World Racing which exclusively has Mercedes Benz cars and a few euro based maps. World Racing 2 sports mostly VW cars.
Test Drive Ferrari Racing Legends would be another car brand exclusive game. Never played it though.
Driv3r’s Nice map is pretty awesome. The game isnt so much. I still boot it up every now and then to fuck around in Nice.
Beamng.Drive has an awesome Italy based island to drive around on.
Assetto Corsa has tons of great european road courses as mods. Its still just a sandbox and setting all the mods up is a pain in the ass. But damn i lost so many hours just cruising around on eg Battenbergring with a few NPCs.
The TT: Isle of man 2 is on motorcycles but i believe all tracks are based in europe(there are others besides the isle of man).
A third of Burnout 3 is located in europe. I like those tracks a lot. But it isnt exactly a ‘chill’ game.
There are tons of eurojank games developed by Davilex where you exclusively drive around europe/germany/the uk/france/etc. They are kinda trash but also kinda cozy. With eg mobygames you should find most of their output.
But yeah, i never realized how rare it is to have euro-centric racing game like NFS Porsche Unleashed.

Depends. I’d consider myself still a Linux beginner and CachyOS is the perfect fit for me while Bazzite or Mint wasnt.
But i was already pretty geeky when it came to computers. Just not Linux levels of geeky. But i fucked around with Windows quite a bit. pOweRuSer or whatever. Also i’d say i’m capable of reading documentation/wikis. Idk Cachy strikes the perfect balance for me(!). Most stuff was super easy to setup. For other things i had to do a bit of reading in the great cachy/arch wikis. For some of the more niche stuff i want to do on my PC it was even easier than on Bazzite or Ubuntu based distros. There are still some guardrails and if i dont want to fuck around it just keeps working while i just use the computer(so far atleast).
Would i recommend Cachy to everyone? No. But if you are curious and nerdy enough its a damn great starting point IMHO.

So much for the bright future under the new ownership. Meh, that didnt took long.
I love GOG and made tons purchases in the past if the games were avaivable there. I’d rather have my games entirely DRM free than having the conviences eg Steam brings to the table as a platform.
But the use of AI slop just isnt a good look. For me it only communicates one thing: We cut corners. Then not owning it up afterwards leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth. “Sorry, wont happen again. We wont use shitty genAI slop anymore on the shopfront.” That aint hard(edit: and would still leave the door open for rApId pRoTotYpInG internally). I still would have had a bit of trust issues. But with that corperate nonanswer i’m not really willing to spent money on GOG anymore.
Also i always fucking hated corpo AMAs. I would have thought GOG would be able to host an AMA which would feel atleast somewhat human. Like sure they’re still a business and have their obvious constraints what and how they can talk about things. But this? This was just a waste of time. Meh

Their discord is btw pretty awesome and also has a matrix bridge if you dont want to use discord.
Here’s my somewhat recent assessment of the current state of linux vr: https://piefed.social/post/1765677#comment_10094795
Personally i use a Pico 4 (non ultra) standalone headset. Its overall a good enough experience that i dont want to switch back to Windows. I would consider myself a somewhat ‘normal’ user. Huge nerd. But linux and opensource isnt the only thing which keeps me moving in my personal life.
PCVR is still overall just ‘bothersome’. Both on Windows and Linux. I have 6 years of experience with PCVR on Windows with a the Oculus/Facebook/Meta Rift S and and a Bytedance/Pico 4. On Windows its also just a mess. Zuckerbergs software is ass. Pico Connect got pretty good over the years but depending on the game while extracting the best performance can be pretty fiddly. Also sometimes you just want use Virtual Desktop instead. On Linux its maybe a bit worse, i guess? But not by much. Mostly different. It really helped me to be somewhat deep into the rabbithole of PCVR on the Windows side before i tackled Linux PCVR.
Anyway, WiVRn with Xrizer is pretty awesome.
To finally answer your questions:
-VR is IMHO in a acceptable state on Linux (all things considered)
-Pico 4 is pretty good IMHO(!).
-No, VR companies dont provide shit so far. Its all community software(which is pretty good). If thats important to you wait how the Steam Frame turns out.
