If humanitarians are saving the lives of people and easing their suffering, then vegetarians should be stopping the consumption of and destruction of vegetables. I don’t see how eating all these plants is helping them!

I’m pretty sure this is wrong. Like obviously it’s a bad thing that they are making it harder to distribute apps through 3rd parties but they aren’t stopping you from sideloading unsigned apps. They are introducing an additional step to unlock your phone to allow unsigned apps. Yes it is annoying and no I do not agree with what they are doing. But they are not removing unsigned app support from all android devices.
The new step will be deciding how long you wish to allow unsigned apps to be installable on your device (either 7 days or indefinitely) and then it requires you to wait 24 hours before you can start to install apps without Google developer signing.
These rules do suck, and it is a bad thing, but lying or exaggerating what is happening will not make them reverse course. It only justifies them when they say “it’s not that bad and it’s for your protection.”

Hank hasn’t been in charge at scishow for a while. When he is on scishow now, his job is read and present an article written by someone else. The fact checking and editorializing was done before he arrived for shooting the video. He also has publicly said it’s not his place to jump back into that company and grab back power he has given up. Being mad at Hank for the knitting thing is insane if you are familiar with how scishow works.

2·2 months agoYes some people enjoy minimalism but most of the time you only see minimalism like this in real estate. The goal of minimalism in real estate is to allow you to see a blank canvas. There are two schools of thought. You can show a potential buyer what you think is a good use of the space to give them an idea of what to do with it. Or you can show them next to nothing and allow them to fill in the blanks with the furnishings and decor they would be bringing with them into the home. I much prefer the latter when looking at a space to move into. I couldn’t live in such a sterile place but I can much better visualize where all my shit is going.
I pulled the cloud modem out of my car. It drives just fine without a connection to the internet or cell towers.

There are pretty big issues with both Sailfish and FuriOS. Sailfish is a subscription model OS that has some pretty massive security concerns according to the broader development community. Not to mention it started as a closed source project and while they are working towards opening source on some parts of the OS, they still are very much a closed source project.
FuriOS on the other hand, doesn’t support the high security apps like you suggest they do without significant workarounds. Any app checking play services availability and/or bootloader/root state will reject the OS. It is also very much not for the Everyman. Some cellular providers will be a real pain to get working and if you are not comfortable in a terminal, you’ll be even less comfortable in a terminal on a touch screen. Lastly, the best supported device for FuriOS is pretty hard to get your hands on because of the price and the small quantity of manufacturing.
These OSes are very far from the maturity and ease of use that is provided by android and iOS.
Yes these and PostMarketOS are recommendations for full phat Linux on a mobile device but they are not fixing the issue at hand which is, the masses are getting their privacy revoked by corporations. Your grandma is not going to use any Linux phone. She just ain’t doing it man. She’s going to let Google do the Google thing or apple do the apple thing.
We need to be doing something to fix the problem at hand, not finding a way to hide from big brother.
Since when does a static IP address cost less than a streaming service? Domains sure. But a static is like $20-30 a month. I use dynamic DNS for any services that need to access the WAN side of my firewall (very very few) and I use tailscale for all things on my local network I need to access from outside. I would never let my media server or NAS touch the WAN.

I have seen things mislabeled in Linux in the past, I’ve also seen minor bugs in Linux. It’s not broken if the software still works fine. Bugs happen with or without AI.
