  • Hopefully you’ll like it better this time around. I know VR preferences can be very subjective, so I can understand why it may not have worked for you. While I don’t know what specifically you didn’t like, I will say that on the performance and visual fidelity aspects of VR, they’ve done some good work over the last year or two. Improvements to the engine and things like DLSS in VR really help it run better.

    Regarding the crafting and material collection, I have some good news. From your time with the game, you probably remember the difficulty options of Normal, Survival, Permadeath, and Creative. That last one eliminates all costs and penalties from the game, for people who just want to Netflix warp drive and chill. But, if you don’t want to make it too easy, they’ve since added a ton of granular difficulty controls, most of which are adjustable on the fly. You can make a game that’s otherwise normal, but eliminates crafting costs, if that’s your preference. You may already be familiar with the settings, but I mention it anyway because a surprising number of people I talk to about the game don’t know and have played the game for a long time without realizing they can adjust fine grained difficulty settings.


  • Expeditions run for anywhere from 4-8 weeks, but they usually only take a dozen hours or less to actually do. I’ve been able to dedicate a few hours on a weekend and do the whole thing in a session or two. If you’re familiar with the game’s systems, it makes things easier, since you already know what to do to accomplish most of the goals. Plus, you can now convert an existing save to a expedition save and bring some of your equipment and supplies over. Once you’re done, you can convert back and bring your stuff back, along with any new things you found. They’ve made it pretty easy to engage with.

    You seem to have misread the comment you’re replying to. They didn’t say this update implemented all of what makes Star Citizen stand out. They’re saying that Hello Games is consistently rolling out new features in a timely manner, whereas Star Citizen’s new features seem to only prolong that game’s already very long development cycle.

    And I’d just like to add that NMS has features that Star Citizen doesn’t have, like being a fully functioning, released game and not a perpetual alpha. Sure, it doesn’t have a bartender AI or bedsheet physics, but it also didn’t cost $800+ million to develop, so some cuts are to be expected. ¯_(ツ)_/¯




  • Absolutely spot on. It reminds me of a comment I saw somewhere on here a few months ago where some clown used “seggs” and someone else responded to them and said they can just say sex because there aren’t any algorithms here that would cause problems for them. The clown has a complete meltdown and ranted and raved in response about how they’ve been using “seggs” long before the internet or some wild shit like that and how dare anyone tell them that they don’t have to use it here. The really fucked up thing was that he got a bunch of up votes and the person they lost their minds on was down voted to hell. I felt like I was losing my mind reading that interaction.



  • With Netflix in a browser, you can bring up your streaming stats in the browser window as you’re watching something by pressing Ctrl + Shift+ Alt + D. It’ll give you several bits of information as an overlay, including what resolution the video is playing at. Next time you stream from them, give it a shot and see if you get anything above 720p. I know I never have and if you search online, you’ll find others with the same experience. In fact, I think Netflix might actually have this on a FAQ page somewhere…

    Scroll down to the OS selection and you can see what resolutions are supported by which browsers on Linux. Turns out Opera will give you 1080p for some reason, but the rest are capped at 720p.
