What are your favorite keys on the keyboard?

I have no clue where Facebook marketplace servers are. That has never been relevant to me. Kijiji is a popular online marketplace in Canada, and it let’s you pick location or have it choose automatically based on your location.

This may be a simple matter of European marketplaces and North American ones having fundamentally different approaches.

Back in the mid 2000s I made a fan website dedicated to my favorite game character, kirby, on one of those “build your own website” type sites. I remember I was like 8 and working on it quite a lot. The site was aimed at like kids / teenagers I think. Can’t remember what it was called to save my life. It definitely does not still exist, but the idea is that I could somehow find the site I made in a backup somewhere. Ive done some pretty deliberate searching over the years but still cant remember what the site builder/hoster was called. Something that started with a P, or had a P in the name, maybe?

I really do genuinely believe that AI content is a substantial drop in quality even from minimal effort content. They’d better invest their time moving to a subscription model. And evidently, whatever theyre currently doing isnt working or they wouldnt be in this situation in the first place. So, id say, firing everyone and moving to AI based content is unlikely to save them and I would believe likely to make their situation much worse.

This is assuming people will pay money to play AI slop. These companies continue to vastly overestimate the value of AI produced content. It might be passable on like, bags of candy, maybe even occasionally passable on like free webcomics. And low quality website design. Maybe some simple cash grab mobile games that get taken down after a couple weeks due to the obvious scams.

But paid video games? Which theyre already charging absurd prices for? No. This bubble will burst and companies that continue producing actual games will come out ahead. Companies that are foolishly going all in on entirely unproven technology will crumble.

The fascists own all the media organizations. The population has been taught systematically since birth to have unyielding blind faith in the institutions of the state and capital. Many won’t understand that anything unusual is happening until they’re hungry and cold, burying empty caskets for their drafted children sent to die in fascist wars of conquest.

It’s because they’re used to male perspective being the default focal lense for all media they consume. Male gaze is more about perspective than it is about aesthetics, something that has seemingly failed to translate into current online discourse.

In essence, all media in a genre they deem belongs to them must see them as their primary audience and must reinforce the perspective they feel is theirs. It’s a kind of patriarchal social egocentrism. Women can exist in those pieces of media, but they have to be defined in relation to a male perspective. This can be a male character within the same work, or it can even be the audience itself by presuming the audience is male.

It’s been so pervasive throughout media over the years that they think of this as being “just how media is”. When media deviates in really any way that media becomes the aberration of the norm. It can be as simple as one of the female characters having a side plot about her that doesn’t involve any of the men, or a female character who isn’t sexually appealing to what the current male psyche desires. The media in question becomes inherently an act of political activism. A transgression.

It’s notable that media from genres deemed not “belonging to the male perspective” is not judged the same way. Men do not become outraged at chick flicks or romcoms or romance novels. They don’t become outraged at drama TV shows made for women about women. Because those things are socially permitted to exist outside of men’s perspectives. It’s usually seen as unique when a man enjoys media that has a female perspective. It’s assumed that he won’t. This essentially means that female perspectives in genres they do see as belonging to them comes across as an explicit attack on them. They avoid the female perspective as much as possible, they denigrate it and demean/belittle it constantly. They do not want to be forced to see the female perspective and will actively resist it.

There’s lots of examples that go beyond this. Lots of media over the past hundred years has broken the rules and been lauded instead of denigrated. But we live in a time where an organized effort exists specifically to promote patriarchal thinking among men and those efforts mean that more scrutiny is being applied to this than ever before. There are entire content engines driving constantly to produce as much patriarchal outrage content as possible, all the time. And it works.

These problems existed long, long before the modern far-right movement started. It’s partly why it works so well. This male egotism in media existed before, and less resistance to it also used to exist. That change in social atmosphere means that men can be manipulated into further and further misogynistic beliefs. All it takes is dogwhistles and a loud, angry, entitled male gamer, and you can radicalize thousands of people into misogyny. And they will repeat that cycle with more or less any boy or man they know.

To make a long story short, anxiety about their perspective not being the default in their favorite genres of media presents a great opportunity to turn young men into fascists. The far right has capitalized on this, and that’s why you see so much outrage about it online. It’s also likely that algorithms have picked up on you being male and will probably show you more of this exact type of outrage content.

Him and the dynasty he created were one of the most destructive forces in human history and resulted in the horrific deaths of millions of people. By many metrics, they practiced genocide and ethnic cleansing on conquered populations. They destroyed the books of captured people’s and places of worship. They’re also well known for having destroyed farmland and aqueducts to starve out massive numbers of people. They were butchers. Mass murderers on a skill the world had never seen at that time. He erased entire civilizations from history, ones that we still barely know anything about.

There’s a few small anarchist communities on here, but sadly they’re mostly quiet.

One of the biggest things I like about Lemmy is the lack of any business. The whole point is you can run your own instance. Social media shouldn’t be a commodity in the first place, as we can see from the death rattles of web 2 social media giants they really aren’t that profitable anymore. And most nations have a lot of laws they have to adhere to, and public opinion is turning against data farming which is one of their primary sources of revenue.

Personally I’d much prefer Lemmy continue its grass roots and democratized growth. But I cant stop you or anyone else from trying, I will just avoid supporting any attempts to create a business out of the fediverse. The last thing we need here is more capitalists lol

Yeah, and I suppose how long you read a post is public too? I mean, meta can see that information, and you’re not hiding it offline or anything, so they should just be able to sell it too why not. And your search history. That’s… public too. Your personal contacts for your friends and family on your phone, thats wide open public information right. Also any health information you log in your phone. Public info.

Is everything human beings do public info? Should we make our houses out of glass while we’re at it, and record every human beings entire life on audio and video so that mega corporations can sell any information gathered?

Bigotry and prejudice. Not necessarily uneducated, but certainly poorly educated.

Lemmy is not supposed to replace reddit. Lemmy is it’s own thing that has already existed for years now. The benefit of Lemmy over individual forums is the interconnectivity of separate communities and being able to view content from multiple communities in one single feed. You can subscribe to communities and view all your subscribed community posts in one feed. Theres also the All sort on the main page, which essentially functions as Lemmy front page. Its also, as you said, not centrally controlled. So if one part fails the rest can continue as normal. That makes it pretty robust. But it isn’t meant to replace reddit, a massive social media platform with millions of users.
