The hollowness is a benefit, not a drawback in this situation, as other posters have described great solutions.
There was some movie on TV that I caught a glimpse of when I should’ve been in bed. I was probably about 3 yo. It was some blobby monster which in my memory was a bit like a skinny Michelin Man, emerging from a pond or river. Scared the shit outta me and the memory stuck.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar was a game changer for me. Mind.fucking.blown. The plot arc was a tour de force and the twist at the end was sensational.
Yeah it’s fucking hard and doesn’t really square up with reason and logic in broad daylight. I know.
Try the book. I listened to it while driving, on Spotify. It makes sense and involving discovering triggers relating to past trauma which the addict is trying to escape.
She has to want to do it. AA can be a great community (depends on group) but the God part shits me off. There are secular versions and online meetings. Other CBT models exist. A good read / listen is ‘Breaking Addiction’ by Lance Dodes. Talks about the underlying background trauma which the addict (of anything) will need to analyse and come to terms with.
THE UNCONVINCINGLY DISGUISED HOMINID WILL REMAIN UNMOVING AS I INITIATE INSERTION OF DENSE SUCROSE CONCENTRATION ITEM INTO FACIAL-CRANIAL ORRIFICE.
Sho’nuff.
Whelp… ya know… “mustn’t kink-shame” or something.
Yeah there’s ‘begging for candy’ and there’s chaperoning your kids.
But then there’s also those shit-rat adults on the doorbell videos pouring whole bowls of candy into their bags and skulking away.
As long as they didn’t poop up on your doorstep?
Whether you like it or not.
I’ve just realised perhaps the Pleistocene series by Julian May could probably be pulled off, especially if using the original (to me) cover illustrations as visual ‘canon’.
I honestly think that would ruin it for all the Culture fans. Much as I love Banks’ work, I like the movie of the books that I’ve produced in MY head more than what anyone else could make.
TBH I’ve never been able to figure out RSS feeds. Just my smooth brain.
But yeah it would be awesome to dump garbage “sources”.
Great idea!
I notice that I can block communities, but not instances. It would be good to be able to do that too. There’s no point in seeing countless posts in a language I don’t understand for instance.
New Lemmy user here. I have two points of improvement I’d like to note, but am not sure where the actual ‘responsibility’ lies.
It would also be useful to see the list for subscribing, as I don’t know what’s out there until I see it. Sometimes I can’t think of something to search for until I see it.
Perhaps this lies more with individual apps/ clients rather than the Lemmy ecosystem…?
Anyone?
On a slight tangent, how come in the Mad Max movies (not the first one) the ‘societies’ he encounters seem to be the products of multi-generational effort, especially Fury Road.
In the first one, there’s a more or less functional world almost as we know it. Then he goes out into the deserts and it’s like 100 years passes.
