They hard part to predict is whether there will ever be a quantum home device, since current home devices are already ludicrously powerfulv for typical uses. Maybe if we ever unlock true general purpose AI, some of that’ll need to run at home.

That was pretty interesting. I was expecting cost/benefit on adopting quantum computing, which I suspect isn’t going to be terribly useful to the everyday person soon. But it was refreshingly targeted on the Cybersecurity impacts, which are valid for the everyday person, already.

TL;DR - Quantum computing is great, if you’re the bad guy. For the rest of us, there’s a cost/value tradeoff in defending against quantum computing threats. People will tell us it’s too much hassle to upgrade our encryption, but it can be done with reasonable effort.

Pixel Dungeon a rogue-like that is very like Rogue.

Luanti a game engine that runs an Open Source massively moddable Minecraft clone, among other games.

Yeah. I buy so few AAA games, I figure I would get my money’s worth. But only if they ran on SteamDeck. I don’t find time to sit at my PC and play, during this phase of life.

That would tempt me, if they convince me that GamePass will come with a solid selection of SteamDeck verified games.

I mean, yeah. Pretty much every Linux version runs a lot lighter than Windows, nowadays.

There’s a lot of reasons, but I think the main one is that Windows has to be suitable for so many different uses, while each Linux distro can specialize.

Getting my games working on Linux used to be a pain in the ass, but the actual gameplay has always been a better experience, for me.

Most of them will come up in any Linux software center if you search for “nes” or “snes” or “megadrive” or “gbc” or “gba”, etc.

Standard disclaimer for GameCube - Nintendo didn’t share much, the engine was deeply strange, and it is hard to emulate properly.

I read along regularly and post a little. I did some basic moderating on Reddit in a previous username.

Where would I even start.

There’s a lot of good information provided video game reviewers. I tend to start there, when looking for something new.

In particular, I’ve learned about entire genres such as “cozy games” and “couch co-op”, that way. Then, once I know what the genre I’m in the mood for is called I can search for “best cozy games of 2020”, to find ideas of what I might like to try.

In order to not worry about whether each game will run, I feel that the SteamDeck is the current nicest all around game console available, followed by the Nintendo Switch.

I’m going to try it on my SteamDeck, but I don’t think it will be the same without the rapid hand strain of reaching across an anti-ergonomic IBM keyboard to hit combos.

Honestly, hand strain is the only reason I ever stopped playing this.
