If there’s a more active community it could be a good idea to have the community locked but have a thread redirecting visitors to the other community to help the one that’s still alive grow.

I definitely do not wish to see a push towards content that is created for the purposes of trying to monetize or self promote for the purposes of making money. The shilling is the worst part of lot of plarforms because of corporate interests that need to recoup costs or want to have a successful IPO so leads to inevitable ways to monetize users and monetizing users.

Leave the popular crowd drawing shills on the corporate platforms. While it would be nice for the fediverse to have more niche thriving communities if it means becoming filled with shills then at that point why even bother with the fediverse.

I think the biggest argument against headphone jack taking up space is the existence of the Samsung Ultra with the Spen. Samsung has an excuse for the Ultra not having a headphone jack with the space dedicated to the Spen. But, most phones don’t have a built in stylus, so what’s the excuse for them. Not like phones have gotten tinier. How is the spen a technological possibility, but headphone is being made to be some technological difficultly that is more difficult to overcome?

Never had those problems of the phones with headphone jacks I’ve used. Feels like an exaggeration of problems being made like an infomercial.

Not like people really can these days. Options get even narrower if people start putting in settings they need like good software support and unlockable bootloader. Despite the many options there isn’t really a phone that doesn’t have some sort of concession to it despite the increasing price points.

Yeah, finding the right instance can be tricky. If you want some more anonomity so you easily blend into the crowd then a general instance might offer that, but then the general community there can have problematic topics and comments trending locally that might brother you enough to want to move if you don’t like the general users.

But, then if you go with a niche instance that is immediately identifiable as holding certain values then it can be harder to blend in and instantly stand out from other comments if the instance exists for a specific topic as its image.

With your doxxing issues. I’m not sure the extent of private information was leaked, but it is best to see what information shared could have led to the doxxing being possible. Finding what led to that can help to try and reduce risks online, since any publicly viewable social media can’t offer protection. Only thing that can be done on public social media is to try to not share too much identifiable info or change details to try and reduce risk while retaining the core idea of the message.

Browsing an instance locally and deciding if you like the content generated from there is the best way to decide if the instance is a fit for you. It gives the best idea of the community there.

I went with lemmy.one because of privacyguides from reddit, and I liked that the move of actually being serious about the protest by making an alternative to move away from. Very few of the subreddits I subscribed to ever decided to make an instance or a fediverse community, so lemmy.one was what I defaulted to in the beginning. Since then Android has made an instance too, so that’d be my second choice. Anyways, that’s how I decided by going with what I was familiar with.

One of the things I found annoying on reddit was when people would cry about getting downvote instead of making a comment without worrying about whether they got downvoted or not.

Making edits crying about getting downvoted or first saying I’ll probably be downvoted for this but… I really disliked those.

But, I will agree that it is preferable to leave a message explaining why someone disagrees rather than just downvoting. Whining about it is just as annoying though. If my instance let me downvote I’d downvote those comments even if I agreed.

Yet you expect random people to know even more when you believe that? Go ask experts like your doctor or search out a university professor if you are that skeptical. Not like accounts are needed to be able to see content either, which is a plus even if the instance you use is defederated. I think it’s better to just see each instance like an old school forum. Sometimes you need to make another account to access a specific forum. Sometimes not if the forum has categories you are interested in already. So it’s like a way of going back to the old way of the internet where things are starting to get much more decentralized.

Modding KOTOR 1 and 2. The wiki guide was incredibly helpful. Also suggestions to use mod organizer for when modding Skyrim and Fallout games. Gunpla sub was helpful in finding out the tools needed to get started to make a nice snap build. Buildapc and buildapcsales all very helpful for finding deals and also helping with putting together a PC. Gamedeals helpful for finding game deals. There was some reddit sub that was helpful in finding what foam to get for replacing old couch cushions too I came across through search results long ago.

I like SeriesGuide for tracking shows and movies I watched, so I bought Series X unlock for it.

Other apps I’ve been happy with purchasing was swiftback up for backing up and restoring apps on rooted phones once Titanium Backup stopped getting supported.

Power Amp for listening to music.

1DM+ for downloading stuff from websites. It detects what are videos, pics, etc.

Hermit which makes lite apps. You can do that with Firefox or any browser for free, but I’ve liked hermit enough to get the pro version.

Got solid explorer and mixexplorer which are file managers.

Then there’s some decent games like Stardew Valley you could buy.

And when you don’t know what to spend it on you can donate money to some of the apps you bought, since some have in app options to send them donations.

People are trying to find new communities to subscribe to. New has been a good way to find them.

As for Reddit that’s what amazing browser extensions like RES and third party browsers like RiF were for to filter out content by blocking subs, keywords, urls, and flairs, which made /r/all a pretty pleasant experience over default.

No and I’d say diversity is worth over a homogenized society even if it comes at an increased chance of conflict. And it’s not like people who live in the same country and speak the same language don’t fight each other. People argue over mundane stuff like tv shows after all, and get into online wars and exoduses over social media platforms.

The peace you seek is probably only possible through massive brainwashing or an absolute privacy infringing totalitarian state that monitors everyone and is rapid in exterminating dissidents that are flagged for abnormal behavior.
