Once he had enough money for everything he could ever need he could have devoted himself to building a self sufficient non-capitalist future for valve/steam with irrevocable covenants in its governance that are not manipulated by the next sociopath to take leadership of the company, like Altman is doing with OpenAI.

Point being, he might not be a sociopath like the majority of them, and he doesn’t seem to be evil, but he’s not a saint either.

There’s also the platforms moderation issues with shitloads of bigotry. Feels like a blind eye but maybe it’s just me. They could take a spare billion in profits, throw it into low risks stocks with dividends or bonds, and pay a team to moderate it out of that in perpetuity without affecting his business or his life like how college endowments work. That is unless the goal for him is still more billions.

Can’t resell a physical game with a key code like literally every steam/ea/epic/whatever DD platform that almost all devs pigeonhole you into though.

IMO physical transfer rules should apply to digital.

Aren’t over 50% of game sales digital? I thought Xbox was like 80%ish and ps5 like 70%ish digital, with Nintendo being closest to 50% and then PC being like 99% digital.

Based on this guy’s review of the aya neo from last month, it really sounds like all of this is too soon out of the oven.

Just a month ago most of these apps are mentioned in that video as having issues with compatibility and micro stuttering, and that 3DS games in particular are not so great on Android.

I’m glad people are making stuff like this but i’d rather have a bulletproof experience after these FOSS devs are given a year or two to mature a “dual screen” android offering, or simply building a proper linux one since it sounds like Android adds to input delay and overhead over a typical linux build.

Paying $250-500+ for a device that will be subpar to the original experience in almost all ways except the oled screen gives me a very mixed impression, unfortunately… especially when you have to really tinker with shit to get it working.

I wish there was a browser addon which would create bogus ai slop comments and just save them as drafts.

Admittedly I wish this was built into RES and just happened randomly across reddit. The ai misinformation war needs to start to punish the companies selling user data imo.

I got bans for checks notes using an anonymizer and deleting an account, then on a new account being told I broke rules for using an anonymizer on a linked account and getting sitewide banned for it because I was “evading bans.”

Can’t wait to anonymize my new throwaway and then request deletion through the california privacy law enabling it.

This is just the zeitgeist of 21st century capitalism.

✓ Subscriptions. Make them pay you forever.
✓ Low initial price to saturate market share and stifle competition while you operate at a loss.
✓ Drive all realistic competitors out of the market (stadia et al.)
✓ Slow user growth? Jack up prices!

I’m not surprised they got out of the hardware business. Software license protection publishing fees are way more lucrative than hardware sales. The hardware is just there to lock people into the software.
