I knew that about alcohol. Still, withdrawals from a drug that’s that commonly used and widely accepted is…scary at best

Thanks. The cops in my country are way different. Sure, they’re armed, but they’re generally really, really nice and they mostly focus on deescalating the situation. Doesn’t mean I wasn’t scared out of my mind, cause I’ve only interacted with the police a couple of times in my life, but those couple of times have always been nothing but positive.
