  • Yeah, I’d tend to agree. The war is digital and economic. Countries are hacking each other’s infrastructure and commercial systems, mass propaganda and spying with troll farms, tiktok and even hardware. Plenty of fighting with sanctions, tariffs, bans of sales of technology.

Fighting for land right now is really unnecessary, however depending on how well humanity survives climate change I’d expect to see some arguments going in to drilling and mining places like Greenland, the arctic and antarctic. China is already setting up shop in Antarctica.

We are also all tied together economically in so many different ways that a war between major powers would be economically devastating for everyone before the first shot is fired, particularly for the countries that ceded most of their production to other countries that might be hostile in war.

  • We’re still being forgotten.

The boomers held on to power for such a long time that X never really got a generational chance to change things or sit in the driver’s seat. They were left waiting in the wings for their turn. The millennials were pretty pissed off for a lot of reasons and made a lot of noise, so they overshadowed X, and they’ve been maneuvering for their opportunities in the driver’s seat.

So basically X got mostly left out. Doesn’t mean we couldn’t fuck things up, though. We were the biggest trump voters by generation.

  • God of Toilet Paper.

You might laugh, but I would own the world.

If you were in my favor, you would get the softest, never-chafing, cleanest single-wipe-clean TP ever. No matter what you ate, no matter how spicy, no matter how ill, you could be assured of pain-free, cooling, soothing, wipes. It would be beautiful. Rainbows and peace, no matter how violent the shit

Piss me off? Anything you choose to clean your backside with is then designated TP. I will clog all the toilets, all the plumbing, all the sewers. I can make it all gympie-gympie leaves, sandpaper, wax paper, or just vanish mid-wipe. No matter how much you wiped your already raw ass, there would still be more. I would be a scourge on the Earth, and all would have to bow down before me. You would love me. You would hate me.

He who controls the comfort of the sphincter, controls the world.

  • I’ll offer this thought…

When I used to discuss politics with someone who viewed policy from the perspective of a different political party say 25-30 years ago, I would say 90-95% of what we wanted to see happen in the country was exactly the same. The differences were in how we wanted to get there.

Unfortunately, today I don’t think that the views align much any more. The views have diverged, and at least on the right, they have become extreme to the point of openly courting fascism, government capture by the oligarchy, and the masses supporting this don’t care about the consequences so long as they think they have a punitive moral victory over their opponents. The left isn’t really the left anymore, and I’m not sure what they want for the country. I don’t think they know either. They seem more interested in inclusivity than they do in actually making economic policy benefitting anyone under the upper middle class level.

All that said, I have yet to encounter one single instance of a conservative view on lemmy that wasn’t radical and antagonistic. I have also encountered far left views that were also radical and antagonistic. Far more hard left views than right, perhaps because there are so many hard left views the right stays away.

I don’t have the answer to what would increase the breadth of political content in Lemmy discussions, but the highly polarized and emotional views of politics along with internet anonymity isn’t really a recipe for balanced discussion. We haven’t even touched on organized propaganda deliberately pushing inflammatory posts and lies that incite reactionary and extreme views in return.

  • Most recently? Cleaning snow. The driceway is short and at a slight slope, and is on the north side of the house. The sun warms just enough of it to melt snow, but the water seeps down to the shaded area created by the house and refreezes. I cleaned all the snow, noted the slippery patch, and did a good jub avoiding it. Wouldn’t you know it, just as I finished the work I forgot about the patch and stepped in it snd went down immediately. Hurt my wrist, pretty durecit was a hood sprain. Sill hurts today if I apply the right pressure, and it’s been a few weeks since i landed on it.

  • The visible buildup and collapse of anti-democrat propaganda pre- and post-election. Then blaming the democrats for trump’s win. The shift to pushing intergenerational conflict shortly after and blaming specific generations for trump’s win. Now blaming the democrats for everything the Republicans do.

Pretty much a steady undercurrent of individuals attempting to blame democrats for everything.

That wasn’t a Lemmy problem before. Sure, we had issues with grad or ml, but there really wasn’t such a uniform front pushing such monochromatic propaganda.

That, and I think some of the edge has come off of Lemmy as a techie/linux platform. It’s still there, but I think there’s a much better variety of discussions now.

  • Just because it ran through the hotend doesn’t mean the moisture magically vanished. It’s not droplets of water in the plastic evaporating, it’s molecular water vapor. It’s still there, just probably less of it after being heated. Also, some plastics have volatiles that help with flexibility that disappear over time. Dunno if PLA or cheaper PLA has that issue, but it’s a possibility. I’ve found the same issues you have with PLA cracking when old after printing. Not sure what the cause is.

  • Yep, and we’re surrounded by enablers, too. I left my phone at home accidentally when I went out with the fam. “Fuckit, I don’t need a phone. Let’s just go…”

And not only did it become quickly obvious how much I use my phone (NFC payment, looking up store hours, nearest grocery store, etc) but how much everyone expected me to have a phone and everything on it. Use my phone to pay. I don’t have it, I gotta use a card. Give my kid cash for when we drop her off to hang out with friends with apple pay. Can’t do it, no phone. Here’s $15 cash. (Eye roll, carrying change is a burden now) Use loyalty card at the store. Nope, it’s on the phone. Wife has to use hers. Can’t get my daughter’s text messages, and even though she knew I’d left my phone, she still texted me.

People expect you to have all the conveniences on a phone, including the ones that are convenient to them.
