I hse keepassxc and store my password database in onedrive. My phone has an app keepass2android which can read the database in onedrive.

My father always called my sisters car “Beulchen”, which is the german diminutive word for dent. It was a very basic Ford Fiesta. No wireless car key, no electrically controlled side mirrors but at least it had AC.

My mother got an HP 255 G8 laptop on which the webcam just will not work no matter what I do.

It’s enabled in the bios and the correct driver is installed but the built-in webcam is not detected. Also the keyboard got damaged with the space button only responsing to center presses after roughly a year of usage.

I know it’s a relatively cheap machine but the driver issue pissed me off

I love that they are still updating AoE2 (at least the latest remaster) with balance patches and new content despite its age

Is there actually any car manufacturer that has decent hardware and software? I have never driven a really “modern” car but from all that I’ve seen so far the interfaces are typically horrible to interact with and laggy to the point where I prefer my car as dumb as possible

I have a degree in computer science. Today I was defeated by my mother’s laptop not detecting its fucking webcam. Downloaded the official driver from HP but I have no clue whether that one even got installed because the install scripts always ended weirdly fast without a success or error message. I will never buy a cheap HP laptop again.

Digital when I’m not at home and need to remember some stuff for later. If I’m at home I use a notebook so I have an excuse to use my fancy fountain pens.

I have a couple ideas though I’m not sure how good they would actually be. I guess anything you use for a hobby or are interested in could be used.

A 3D printer was already mentioned but would probably be the most fascinating (and bulky) thing I could bring. In that case I would probably talk about the workflow that goes into making a part, what to look out for when printing and how a print is actually made.

For simpler stuff I have 2 ideas. Firstly, I am kind of fascinated by pocket watches and have one that belonged to my great grandfather or something and is probably ~100 years old at this point. My grandmother gave it to me on my 18th birthday. The scale of the parts inside such a watch and how they work really interests me but I don’t dare take any of the watches I have apart since the parts are so small (though still larger than modern mechanical wrist watches). Did you know there are so called “railroad grade” pocket watches? They were used by train conductors and had to have a certain minimum accuracy since time differences in planning could otherwise lead to train collissions.

The second small thing I could talk a bit about are fountain pens. For that I also have an older pen (A Pelikan 140 which was manufactured some time in the 50s or 60s) which is a piston filler pen, meaning it requires using ink bottles to refill. This allows usage of some really nice looking inks. Interestingly, the color of the ink on the paper can vary greatly depending on various parts of the pen (Nib thickness or the feed of the pen impacting the wetness) and the paper which may be more or less absorbant. I have a nice green ink which will have a red shimmer on wetter line parts if I use the correct paper. On other paper types it is just green.

What caused you to move to the other side of the world?

I think about moving away sometimes but I have quite strong roots where I am in terms of family and friends and I’m not sure how well I could handle leaving that behind and ending up alone somewhere
