Mint is a huge community distribution and Nobara is one guy maintaining a gaming PC for himself and his father. He has done a lot of good for the community and is very smart, but I would never use his kernel, ever.
It’s very easy actually. If you competitively game on a normie display, you get to pick from either tearing or bad latency.
Personally I think Timeshift is better. (and switching from Snapper to Timeshift is not that trivial)
The problem is manufactures are doing everything to sabotage users running custom roms on their devices. Frankly everything you highlight exists already, though there are very difficult problems on the image processing front. Personally I would much rather use a full Linux distribution on a phone, than AOSP without the play store.
Also micro G is not a solution. Having a desktop browser to access drive, docs and photos could be, especially if there were some unique rendering options for those things. (microG is bad, because Google can break it at their leisure)
I think It’s on their charter that no matter how much corporate money they’ll get they’ll never accept any outside influence just the same. The donators are amply warned to not expect anything other than development as usual or faster.
