Your comment seems to misunderstand federation and the function of activitypub. Lemmy does have an All front page that is the front page of All Lemmy servers that your instance knows about and hasn’t defederated with.

You don’t need an account for each instance, you just post on your local instances copy of the community/post and your post shows up on all other Lemmy servers that you instance knows about.

You may have inadvertently made your own point, that it isn’t intuitive for newcomers but a single front page/account totally defeats the purpose of decentralized social media.

You have described BlueSky which is distributed but not decentralized and will enshittify the same as Reddit and twitter and the only benefit to ATProto is some other public benefit corp could potentially host a copy of the network in its place until that business decides to enshittify of course

I don’t think it’s probably being bottled. I think there are just a combination of people who would rather be unhappy where they are than face a bit of resistance getting themselves out of their rut and people who are fanatically devoted to legacy social media due to sunk cost and have a hard time abandoning their decade old accounts. So whenever the topic comes up they are happy to trash Lemmy rather than improve their situation. They are on Reddit alternatives sub for a reason but they won’t get off their ass because nothing is perfect enough for them

They probably use a third party company to mail statements and such. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have already tried to contact the account owner but are unable to. They still need an address on file for account verification so they can’t exactly remove your address without an updated address from the customer. I don’t know why they asked you though. You wouldn’t have permission to update information on someone else’s account.

The principles of operation of the fediverse are actually very aligned with the “small government, personal freedom, free speech” ethos that conservatives in the US claim to have.

The culture on most fedi spaces is hostile towards anything less than luxury gay space communism politically but it’s pretty easy to ignore because the power structure of the fediverse is ideal and makes it so you filter out the very worst of the tankies if you so choose.

Now if you are a fascist who is only concerned about dominating others opinions and rights, and only care about freeze peach and not freedom of association and expression I can see how you might find the fediverse objectionable.

The fedi needs more voices from all sides, it does not need fascists.

I think being added to join-lemmy definitely helps but people that are already on Lemmy aren’t going to that site so it definitely shows that we are growing (or at least replacing people at a decent rate)

It’s just the default front end that does that. Using a front end like voyager can automatically redirect links to the instance you are signed in on, more apps and the default front end ought to do that quite frankly

“Karma” on Lemmy isn’t tracked. Having a negative score comment or post doesn’t affect your account or experience at all. I’ve posted plenty that has gotten downvoted into the negative and I haven’t even gotten a warning because Lemmy is an actual free speech platform unlike twitter or Reddit.

That doesn’t mean that everyone has to like your opinions though, hence the downvotes, but that’s ok.

Unless you made a significant down payment they probably sold your mortgage to Freddie but they still can give you loans on your home equity especially if going to pay for things that are going to put more equity in your home.

She’s a kid, you are hardly an adult. Just be kind, the things you are going through she can’t really understand at that age. And the things that a big deal to her, aren’t that big of a deal for you.

Sounds like you have it set right, I just didn’t realize you also have to set the controls up seperately on PlayStation as well as on Fortnite for my son. I had the same settings as you for his Fortnite account but didn’t realize that it didn’t apply to the console as well and another player was able to look him up and sent him voice messages over PlayStation despite not being his friend

Make sure you ratchet down the parental controls on whatever platforms they access games like Fortnite or Roblox on. One thing I didn’t realize about PlayStation 5 is that people who aren’t on your friends list can send unsolicited voice chat requests.
