Differences in instance-level topical focus and moderation philosophy, for one. Also physical location and “vibe”.
There are a certain set of bigoted and/or extremist instances that I would judge an instance for not defederating from. There’s a reason I’ve stuck with .world even through some turbulence. Some heinous shit shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone.

If someone’s email domain is @ihateminorities.com, I’d say that’s pretty fair grounds for blocking it.
There are some instances that actively promote hateful or extremist content, and exist for the purpose of hosting it. There are others that do not actively support that content but do allow it, anywhere, making blocking one community not enough. Defederation is an important tool and should be used wisely.

If true: Well, that’s the end of that platform I guess. Shame, I liked that there were so many alternatives cropping up.
There’s a lot of types of bigotry and other general nastiness that are not covered by that.
Normally I would not be so nitpicky with language but if multiple admins were removed / quit over it, that’s pretty suspect.

is what’s more provably worrying. Modlogs are public, and if I’m interpreting this information correctly, I think the devs are engaging in scummy practices.
This script works as an app attached to your user, and rate limits itself so it doesn’t break - that’s why it takes so long, though. Took me 25 hours to shred a 6 year old account.

This will take a long time if you’ve posted and commented a lot. This works better than PowerDeleteSuite in my experience, as PDS missed a lot of stuff that was older than a certain point.
There is a way to make it not delete your comments and change what the edited message is, check the readme in the github link.
the smell of heavily chlorinated water. i used to spend a heck of a lot of time at the pool when i was a kid, and where i live now there aren’t nearly as many pools, so it’s not something encountered often anymore.
