Yeah, but good luck re-glueing the wood chips and sealing that malformed box, man. Might as well improvise with what’s on the horizon.

IR blaster glasses with a toggle switch could be pretty easy to make with today’s tech.
I mean, pandora’s box has already been pried open with a crowbar and the lid thrown into a woodchipper. Hidden cameras have been accessible to the mass public for almost a decade at this point.
At this point having a model that could be assembled and controlled by the end user means that the recorded data is within their possession. It might be for naught tho, as passerby could have their Meta lenses recording without any knowledge of the consequences.
But hey, now you can expose your workplace abuse with video evidence in court! XD
A spec that can be 3d printed and hand assembled by the user (with the exception of the lenses) could work well - hard to enshittify that.
I wonder if a 3d printable frame could be possible with the lenses and SOC produced separately. Maybe it could be paired with a phone to offload the work.

History section, conflict arose related to control and potential profiteering by the shareholders (with a whopping 7 citations to confirm it holy cow)
What did it feel like before security cameras and personal surveillance became affordable and ubiquitous? Nowadays, I have to internally accept that a majority of my life will be recorded, auto-labeled, and probably marked in a digital vault for sale or future use by some organization. There’s very few ways for my generation to reclaim our privacy - everyone born after the 2000s is basically hosed.
Was it better back then? Did people actually trust one another?
It’s user instance specific. lemmy.blahaj.zone, for instance (where my account is from) has downvotes disabled entirely - I can’t add them nor view them.
It is a bit of a pain to be honest, since my old lemm.ee account allowed me to do both. I suppose I could email my instance admin to ask for clearance or an explanation, but I think that’d border on unnecessary nagging. I can still see the total regardless.
