Depends. My mother’s computer didn’t have the hardware necessary to drive Win11, so I explained the options, and she said she’d try Linux.

She’s on Fedora Workstation on both her Desktop and Laptop now, both relatively standard HP Computers (the Desktop being very, very old, however).

She can connect to her work server via Citrix and access the software she needs. She can take work calls via MicroSIP. She can edit documents locally with onlyoffice. She can do whatever else she needs in the browser. None of this needed any non-standard drivers or packages, except for MicroSIP, for which Wine needed to be installed, though it worked without any special configuration.

So it can work perfectly well. Depending on the use case.

The younger ones didn’t mind it, for the older ones I did it myself while on visit.

The server stays on, always. I have like ten people using the services on there over tailscale. There’s a kvm, should something really unexpected happen.

More advanced hardware from a country the US see as an adversary sounds like it should be great for the stock of Lockheed and Co., actually.

I get called like once or twice a week, and it’s usually something time sensitive or important. Always found people just flat out refusing to answer the phone crazy.

A modern replacement for OpenScan. It’s workable, but some features don’t work on Modern Android, and a good Scanner app is probably something most people could use. Could look at Adobe Scan and Office Lens for feature inspiration.

Logseq uses a bit of a different paradigm though. It is cool, but I wouldn’t say it’s a drop in replacement.

Is the obsidian Android App not open source? I thought all their stuff was. Kinda embarrassed I never checked.

Those are pretty common in most European countries I’ve been to too, though often more monochrome. They just seem like less of a hastle than paper tags, if properly implemented.

It has been many years since I’ve used an OS without full disk encryption, so I can’t really compare, but I have a Windows Partition for some proprietary software that doesn’t like Wine on my PC, and it is really smooth. Might be because it’s on a NVME SSD, though.

Well, it kinda does. If you choose to print your keys, you can use print to file and safe them to the encrypted drive, if you really want to for some reason.

Look for specialist forums for whatever I’m buying, see what they recommend. Look at the documentation available from the manufacturer, it can be a good indication, if not of quality, than of maintainability. Also, I live in a country in which you can return any product bought online for any reason 14 days after it arrived, so that helps if it turns out to suck.

I have been looking for something similar, and my current solution is to use an RSS Client like Feeder, and to subscribe to the RSS Feeds of some quality outlets.

I’ve still got my PRS-T2 from Sony, but I am regularly thinking about replacing it, because the low resolution is kinda wearing on me. Maybe with something from boox, they at least seem to not be bound to any store. Kinda pricy, though.

There doesn’t have to be anything wrong with it, though I seem to remember that BitLocker isn’t all that difficult to break if your passphrase isn’t long enough. I just found it a bit weird because unlocking via TPM very much feels like the standard solution under Windows.
