I liked the veggie burger when it existed. But nowadays any burger you get will look like it was prepared with a blindfold and briefly sat on. Like imagine a dry patty on a flat greasy bun, decorated with a single pickle, and spattered with cum mayonnaise.
Back when I was younger and willing to inflict fast food on my digestive system, I went to Carl’s Jr if I did want a burger. Similar price and actually a decent meal. Plus the chicken nuggets are star shaped and the kids loved that. I’m curious if there’s a similar experience in the states? All I know is if I visit North America I want to try an “In & Out Burger”, I’ve heard they’re good.

It seems to me
the powers that be
hope the technology
will speed up the “wee”
poverty and displacees
to but a generation or three

It’s just corporate doublespeak messing with your head. The normal person translation is:
oh fuck something might have happened. But we don’t want shareholders to panic. Uhh, so everyone, please pretend everything is fine.

Yes monogamous people would probably be offended. Think of it this way; to monogamous people, polyamory is functionally cheating, so you’re indirectly accusing them of being a cheater with your question. It’s not my fault, this is just the reality.
The solution is so extremely simple you’ll laugh. Instead of asking if they’re poly, ask people if they’re monogamous. Other monogamous people will be like, yeah of course aren’t you? Poly people will say no without being offended.

My ex went to McDonald’s when we went traveling overseas (yes really), so I can say I’ve (unfortunately) had McDonald’s in Australia, Paris, Hong Kong, and Japan.
Australia was the worst. Paris and Hong Kong were ok, but the menu was weird. Japan was actually good. Though… maybe it was skill issue, but the menu was completely impossible. So I ended up just begging the cashier for a ham-bo-ga, please God just any hamboga I’m so hungry.

My favourite part is when your style or the auto formatter changes over time and you have to decide between:
Plus it doesn’t fix the problem of auto formatters writing ugly code. You can’t easily tell the auto formatter that early returns can be bracketless for brevity, but nothing else can be. Unless you add a comment like \\ ignore-rule-2753674 which makes me want to throw up

Oh that’s interesting. Maybe I’ll try a dietician instead, I just assumed doctors know all about diabetes stuff…
What happened with Keto was, I felt like I was eating too much fat per day. I felt greasy and horrible and disgusting and heavy, and my LDL cholesterol went even worse (6.3–7.8).
I tried fixing it by eating mostly protein and low fat instead, but considering I can’t eat much volume per day, that just ended up with me eating almost nothing and things went real bad from there. I couldn’t get out of bed for days at a time levels of fatigue. So I slowly added back in wholemeal carbs and some fat, and at least now I know what types of carbs cause spikes.
The reason I can’t eat much is I have erosion in my esophagus, stomach, and intestines from GERD acid reflux (confirmed via endoscopy). I’ve been on strong acid suppressants for a while but it seems like the “damage is done” so to speak from decades of acid splashing all over the place, and it’s not healing. At least I don’t wake up with a melting throat anymore so I’ll take that.
I’m on statins recently to try and reduce my LDL. The first type I tried gave me severe full body cramps so hopefully this type is better. And this is only a small part of my medical problems. Before we get into POTS, CFS, hEDS, MCAS, chronic migraines, arthritis, hormone problems, heart problems, neuropathy… I always forget most of my issues as well I can’t keep track of them all. I take more than 10 pills per day to manage all that.
I just accepted I’m going to die sometime soon based on this trajectory.
I’ve been trying to increase my walking per day because I heard walking is a great way to reduce diabetes and heart attack risk. I’m up to 15 minutes walk per day and some sneaky resistance training, which knocks me out for the rest of the day, but it makes me feel like I’m doing something at least.
Basically my body is failing in a million different ways at once at this point. If I only had one problem it would be easy to fix, but everything interacts and compounds the issue. Thanks for listening and trying to help by the way, you’re a kind person.

Yep ensure was the one. I wasn’t sure if it was available internationally so I didn’t put name brand in there.
hyper tension, fatty liver, visceral obesity, excess adiposity, snoring
Yeah I have all those problems lol. I actually did use a CGM and the most concerning thing noted was I was going into high 2’s and low 3’s blood sugar. Normal range is 4–7 so I was hypoglycemic for a big part of every day.
It turns out I was massively undereating for a long time and slowly starving to death, somehow without losing weight as well. When I brought it up in the past doctors were like, well you’re not massively losing weight so you’re fine. But I was measuring my calories and only getting 800–1400 on a good day, when my maintenance was meant to be 2400.
My doctor told me to stop starving to death as a top priority, but due to various other medical issues I physically can’t eat enough food per day. It got really confusing so now I’m using Ensure even though it’s not ideal for prediabetes (I can see it on the graph). All the doctors I’ve seen have mostly just been confused and not really sure how to help me. My disability makes it impossible to exercise enough per day.
My body seems mostly ok with my current diet of whole meal stuff, but any sugar or refined carbs really fucked me up and made me very unwell. So I’m definitely avoiding all sugar like the plague. I did keto for a while but it wasn’t sustainable for me long term. So wholemeal is my compromise.
Overall a shitty situation, not much can be done to help me it seems.

It feels like social media to me. It has upvotes, replies, notifications, comments, a feed… If it’s not a social media then neither is Reddit, and at that point the word stops being meaningful. Look right now we’re even arguing about semantics just like any good social media

Open Weight vs Low Cost. Are these models cheap because they are open weight and having hundreds or people stress test running them on different hardware helped to lower the cost? Or is it that they are being provided as loss leaders to drive the prices down?
I wouldn’t be surprised if the A.I. in China is heavily subsided so that people use them. Not saying that’s necessarily a bad thing, but I’m not sure it’s sustainable long term, or a fair way to compare A.I. models. We need to compare the true computational and financial cost of each token internally, not whatever is being charged for it externally, otherwise you’re just saying “stuff made in China is generally cheaper” which we’ve known for decades. This might be a complicated question to answer though.

Does that make Lemmy an underground black market? 🤔

Reading the comments mine might be the weirdest…
One of:
I have prediabetes along with a dozen other health conditions lol

No I mean I think there was a miscommunication or something, I genuinely agree with everything you said except that 1 part lol. I’m not very good at explaining things, sorry

Believe it or not my first paragraph was working on medical software lol. It was good though, I liked the feeling of helping doctors help people, making the world a better place.

Unemployed / disability lol. But if I could still move around I’d probably get into something outdoorsy. Park ranger or the like. Keeping a candle lit though, in case one day I miraculously recover or medical science advances or something.
Edit: actually it’s the reason I did software engineering in the first place. But actually this industry is now hostile to people with disability. Can I work from home because leaving the house is hard? No, everyone must be in office chained to your desk 9/9/6. Can I be neurodivergent? No, everyone must have constant in person meetings and work in open plan offices.

Sorry I don’t really know anything about North American indigenous, I live in Australia and our mobs are very different. I think actually we’re in full agreement, apart from the detail of whether it’s “intelligent design” or not :)

I’ve always had to manually install drivers every time I set up a distro (usually Ubuntu variant). After that I do noticed it updates semi randomly over time, which usually causes some games to stop working, but c’est la vie

Every day I regret buying the NVIDIA gpu lol. Next time I’m getting AMD for sure
You can’t argue that a news site that happens to have a complementary comments section is the sole purpose of the service. It’s not comparable to Reddit and Facebook at all. Look I hate the social media ban as much as you, but that’s a completely separate issue you just mixed up in there.
Governments banning websites is a whole other kettle of fish I don’t really want to get into right now. Social media has always been a vague definition. It’s like porn, you can’t define it, but you know it when you see it.
4chan is a forum because it lacks the features that make it social media-y. There’s no upvotes. There’s no feed. It’s just a list of unstructured posts and comments. What would happen if you added upvotes, comment threads, direct messages, friends list, an algorithmic home page, to 4chan? Oh look it’s Reddit. Which is a social media.
You can’t just change the definition of words because you don’t like governments restricting them. The actual problem is governments attacking your rights, it has nothing at all to do with social media. If instead of restricting social media they restricted specifically “comment sections”, would you be arguing with me on the formal definition of a comment section?
Again I get that you hate the restrictions. I think they’re dumb too and I live in AU. But the definition of social media is not the problem here.
