Nerd, truck driver, and kinda creeped that you’re reading this.
Their instance and HexBear do not federate.
(based on your profile) if it’s trans-issue related !mutual_aid@hexbear.net would be super open to it, though you’d need an account on an instance not blocking HexBear.
AFAIK if an app was installed by dragging it to Applications, there’s no way it could still run after you delete it. The actual executable is contained within the .app file.
It is true that uninstalled apps can leave files behind in other places though. Which is a problem on all platforms.
You can drag it somewhere else or run it from the DMG? You can run apps outside that folder…
It’s not “dragging the .dmg into your Applications folder”, you mount the .DMG then drag the .app inside and move it where you like (a shortcut to your /Applications is provided)
The DMG also gives it compression. It’s not an “installer”, it’s more a form of zip file. Like a .zip it allows publishers to bundle guides, photos, etc.
Besides the “just drag” method is so much better than clicking through an installation wizard. But some apps use .PKG files which is an installer wizard.
There’s tons of legitimate arguments made against macOS but this seems like just unfamiliarity.
I made a HB account specifically to use these (and also cause I like HB)
I don’t use the account to post much though since I’m an admin of another instance. I just copy and paste the emoji when I want them lol
I find circles around .world to be more liberal and not leftist. (Not that there aren’t any on .world… Just leans that way)
There’s not much in terms of right wing spaces but tbh I’m uh, completely fine with that.
Sublinks GitHub looks pretty dead
It uses KDE for that
It works but can be more finicky
You generally don’t need to mess with drivers on Linux with desktop oriented distros.
One exception is Nvidia graphics cards IF you want to game. They’ll work fine out of the box but for full gaming performance you’ve gotta install their proprietary drivers. (And this is slightly harder on Fedora due to their more aggressive anti-proprietary policies.)
No, but you can create an account on an instance that federated both of them.
Spanish has “Ustedes” (except in Spain, they use “Vosotros/Vosotras”)
“y’all” fills a legitimately useful gap the English language has. Other languages have a word like this.
Edit: also something cool I just found out, some languages have a way to disinguish “we” (you and I), and “we” (me and the rest of us, not you). It’s called clusivity and is missing from European languages. Many indigenous languages of the Americas and Oceania have this, as well as Vietnamese and northern dialects of Mandarin.
I definitely employed this strategy in middle school
Doesn’t generally work because logic doesn’t work on these people
Nah man gotta keep that shit swampy
Isn’t everything in Spanish?
¡Gracias por la lección de español de hoy!
HEIC is not proprietary to Apple at all, they were just one of the early adopters of it.
My Android phone takes pictures in HEIC/HEIF by default, and it’s not nearly as much of a problem anymore almost all software can handle the format now.
That’s why I’m kinda hoping Apple would adopt standard RCS and then the ball’s on Google for not cooperating.
Awesome news. Lemmy has felt kinda empty and sad lately without them
