If you have a setup that works great. For a lot of people(including me) retro arch also works. There doesn’t have to be one solution to a problem, and there shouldn’t be. I hate iOS but some people love it. That’s how the world works.

That isn’t what happened according to the queer.af admins. They decided to let the domain registration lapse cause they didn’t want to support that government fiscally even indirectly.

Best bet to see if it would break stuff is to just rename the folder (and make a new one with the same name to be safe). Keep browsing regularly for a few days/weeks to see if anything breaks. My educated guess is it’s probably caching data from other instances.
