Mastodon has a chance to snatch up artists who are pissed off about Twitter, and of course they’re going to check out mastodon.art not knowing about their bullshit.

I’m not sure what the solution to that should be, however. Take down mastodon.art? I’ve been telling people to avoid that instance, but non-techie people don’t understand that the Mastodon developers don’t own it.

Yeah the IIc+ was a neat idea, but they really should have defaulted to 1 MHz rather than 4 MHz. The Apple II doesn’t have a system timer, so games rely on counting CPU cycles.

Other than that, I like that the IIc and IIc+ have all the devices built in, like the 80 column card, language card, printer/modem, joystick, and mouse, along with a full 128 KB of RAM. Don’t have to mess with cards on those.

If you want to play any games at all on a IIc+, you have to hit Open Apple-Ctrl-Reset-Esc to change the CPU speed to 1 MHz, or the game will run four times faster than it should. The timing of the Esc key is tricky, but if you did it right, it will say “Normal” near the top of the screen.

We got one secondhand from my uncle when I was a kid. Between defaulting to 4 MHz and having a 3.5 inch drive built in, the thing made almost no sense. I had been using IIe and IIgs systems in school. Having to hit Esc at the right time while rebooting (so you’d see “Normal” on the screen and boot into 1 MHz mode) was super annoying but necessary to play any of the games we had at all. You absolutely also need an external 5.25 inch drive to use it, which kind of goes against its attempt at a compact form factor.

The regular IIc made a lot more sense.

Chrome runs like garbage compared to Firefox, and this has always been the case for me. I didn’t make the switch in 2008. I also had a bad feeling that Chrome would become the new IE with every other browser ditching their own rendering engine and basing on Chromium.

People back then said it was OK because Chromium is ostensibly open-source. Look where that got us. Surprise, it’s still controlled by Google!

Elected Democrats can’t even be bothered to codify things like abortion and gay marriage, but it’s always someone else’s fault, fodder for the next election cycle.

My point is, neither side actually gives a shit. I agree with most of what you’re saying about Republicans, but Democrats just do not give a shit either. They just play the blame game. Nothing will get done because all of these politicians are laughing their way to the bank while everybody else bickers.

First of all, not every conservative is a Trump supporter. Second, there are a number of loud liberals on TikTok who have said things like “cis people need to delete themselves.” It goes both ways.

Assuming everybody who votes differently from you or is in the opposing party is exactly the same is just as harmful as taking for granted that everything everybody on your side does or says is 100% correct. This binary view of politics has been exacerbated by social media, and it is doing a lot of harm. Both sides are basically at the point where they’re convinced that the other side wants them dead. It’s fucking crazy.

I did. I deleted my Reddit account on July 2. I was using Lemmy.world as my main since the middle of June, but lately I’ve been using this instance because of lemmy.world’s constant issues.

I refuse to use the official Reddit app, and while Narwhal is fine and all, it seems like any third-party app’s days are numbered, whether they pay up or not. And while spez said Old Reddit isn’t going anywhere, he also said he wasn’t going to copy Elon.

Spez said they’re not killing Old Reddit, but he also said they weren’t going to pull an Elon either.

Since deleting my account on July 2, I just don’t care enough about Reddit to create a burner account or download their app.

Started with a really small instance, didn’t really have a whole lot of content in All and struggled to find communities, so I joined lemmy.world, which got me a lot more content and communities, but now it’s constantly having issues. So I’m trying this instance (as an alt for now) because there is a federation helper running on it. I’m honestly not sure which instance I will stick with long-term.
