  • There is nothing fundamental that would stop you from creating the machine , but it would be a logistical Nightmare. The way we create robots depends entirely on a complex supply chain, you need Polymers, semiconductors, several types of alloys, rare earths, etc,.all of them coming from all over the world.

This machine would essentially be an everything factory that is fully automated, making every single electric component , refining every gram of metal, etching every Silicon wafer into an integrated circuit, it would have to have a way of reaching every single mineral deposit needed and handle the transport of such material.

The manufacturing of CPUs is already one of the most complex in the world , and fabs don’t have to worry about mining their own metals and synthesizing their own chemicals.

This machine would have to be static due to the scale of production and would likely need to create it’s own drive workers for maintenance and resource gathering, so it would also have to have a way of creating and maintaining such workers.

That’s of course assuming it would use the kind of technology we use. The kind of technology we’ve developed over Centuries which has been shaped by human culture, economics and biology.

There’s probably hundreds of technologies that could be self replicated very efficiently but that people overlooked because getting copper from the other side of the world was more convenient.

So I guess ultimately that would be the limiting factor, our machines are designed around us. You would need several radical designs that disregard decades of RnD

  • I love Foss projects and I try to be as positive as I can be. There are several programs that while having a learning curve are actually usable, but gimp is so user hostile its insane.

How in the ever living fuck does it not have a god damn circle tool. Why the fuck can’t I rotate selections in real time, I need to precalculate the angle and pray it’s correct.

And those are just 2 things I encountered while trying to make a shitty image of pinkie pie as Dante Alighieri 2 days ago. I can’t imagine having to actually learn it to replace Photoshop for work.

And it’s so intentionally shitty, inkscape has a UX that’s at least 10 times better, 1000 times since they actually let you draw a god damn circle ffs.

  • I’ve been coding on my Android for 6 years now. At first it was with a native java editor for my programming 1 homework but then I discovered proot-distro for termux that allows you to run Linux distros as containers on Android.

I have debian 13 on my Android and use scrcpy to screen cast a secondary screen on desktop mode. It can be a bit slow sometimes but for java, JavaScript and python it’s been alright. I know proot-distro can have issues with compiled languages like c and c++ but I haven’t used those there since the semester we used cpp it was for SIMD and arm doesn’t have the avx instructions.

There’s a guy on GitHub called droidmaster that has the scripts to setup proot

  • I made a suicidal joke once and got a 7 day ban and the automod locked on me like the plague.

Got another 7 day ban for quoting Garfield for promoting violence,

got a 7 day ban on a post by rawdawg comics when he said he loved his boyfriend for saying “ha gay” because apparently that promotes hate.

and then the final one was on distressing memes when someone was talking about the funky town video , I was literally giving context to a person that didn’t know what the video was, and only my comment got removed .

  • Every once in a while when I’m bored. I grew up with an old portable radio and then an ipod nano 6 that had a radio, whenever I got tired of the music I’d just open the radio app and listen for a few hours.

There’s a lot of music in my country that I don’t listen to often but every once in a while I get the urge.

It’s also very nostalgic, listening to someone slice talk and play songs they want to play, with timed segments instead of an algorithm , listening to the stations fade when you get too far like on childhood road trips.
