Obviously you will make up your own mind, but I have had to block shitjustworks entirely, due to the amount of fashposting I’ve seen from there. For comparison, Lemmy.world often annoys the shit out of me, but I haven’t had to block the whole thing. The main thing is how the instance moderates. You can always block users and communities, but those “light-touch moderation” instances will always end up full of the worst people.

There’s communities I like on .world, so I just ban the most insufferable users and comms.

Yeah, that’s pretty much it. “Mutual aid” is meant to be distinct from “charity” which has a different kind of implication. Mutual aid is more about “we help each other”. Charity can absolutely be organized, but tends to be more “structured” than mutual aid efforts.

I have at least 3 friends IRL that are on Lemmy. One of them I got to join, and two are friends I met doing mutual aid and other organizing projects. Later found out they’re on here.

I’ve been vegan for almost 25 years, and vegetarian for couple years before that… and I’d be happy it existed, but I wouldn’t eat it. I don’t miss meat, and the idea of eating any of it just grosses me out.

I’m happy with Lemmy.ml. I feel like moderation is taken seriously here and that is a very good thing. I don’t care for “free speech” that provides a platform for immoral points of view. For example, I do not need to consider the opinions of racists or Nazis. I’ve heard them plenty and there is no redeeming value in their speech. It is a settled debate. Anyone who doesn’t understand that deserves your suspicion.
