The SMS reliance existed before the name changed to Signal and it was a online messanger ever since so no clue what you mean with that.

That’s because SMS isn’t end to end encrypted in general, you need a encryption client on both sides to achive E2E encryprion aka Singal to Signal or something comparable.
Your preinstalled SMS app is usually the best way to receive SMS, I wouldn’t give and unnecessary app permissions to access them!
Cool, a consol OS like SteamOS is one of the best usecases for immutable Linux, just a perfect match!
Your local power plant approves of this mesaage!
I don’t know how many other countries are in a similar situation but in Germany ISPs do it themself and aren’t forced at all…
As always the EFF is 100% right, that’s not their job and their position of power is really dangerous if they try to do it!
There is huge progress on the Mobile Linux front and Ubuntu Touch is still very much a thing but all of it is far from ready. The majore issue with phones is their closed source drivers and hellscape of vendor specific kernels tho, if they had mainline Linux kernels vendors could update them forever with relatively little effort, custom ROMs wouldn’t need devixe specific ports and we could use much of the current mobile Linux progress accross a wide range of devices!
Yea, just leave the CSAM till someone reports it, great solution!
Well SteamOS is Arch based but running a LTS kernel with backported changes in a ummutable way with everything sandboxed in Flatpak so it’s quite unique but idk why anyone would want to run it on their desktop, if the immutable aspect is so interesting ro you you can try Fedora Silverblue, Vanilla OS and co. but none of those is in a state that I would recommend as “just works” for a desktop experience, if that’s the majore goal Debian or Fedora with Gnome are probably your best options.
Effective is doubtful if you ask me, everything he did was based on huge loans and a preparation for war that he solled differently (E.g. massive streets all over the country)
Good, people are fucking stupid and if it effects others it’s often better to choose the security for them!
Employment is among the biggest dangers to mental health!
I use Aurora Droid, that sometimes has the opposite issue but the search tends to work a lot better despite that and I prefer the interface too!
I use AntennaPod and it’s okay, I love the look but the UX takes some getting used to and I have no clue if it can sync with a desktop client, I guess with Syncthing there probably is a way for almost any app but I doubt that’s what you mean!
They literally invented their own technology with no benefits over current normal products just to make it hard to replace, louis has two great video about that storage desaster and it’s rediculess! :(
I hope the questionmarks in that title are sarcasm…
I like apps that do one thing and one thing well but maybe that’s just me
My recommendation isn’t to ditch Signal for contacts that have it to, it’s simply to avoid adding another app with access to your SMS if you are worried about security, there is nothing that app will do better than your default SMS app.
