There are two separate apps for Mastodon and Friendica though, right? Or did I misremember?

Plus the Android app on f-droid.
spin up your own instance
Absolutely. If you’re at all worried about sending files through third party sites, set up your own. Provided you trust your own security skills, of course.
I would certainly be more interested in having an install under my own domain than using some rando’s that I don’t know.
I think it’s weird that they insisted all along that K-9 would remain its own branded version of the joint app. Yet according to f-droid, my newly updated K-9 (same app I’ve used for a decade and a half) is now one of two “Thunderbird for beta testers” listed…
It’s still K-9 in my local app menu, the icon is the same, but I guess the Thunderbird project are sort of working out how to manage two differently branded versions of the same app?
Oops, added a suggestion of Simplex before I saw your answer. +1, I guess 🙂
Simplex chat has a default “private notes” chat which is essentially chatting with yourself as you describe it.
Simplex is available for a lot of platforms and devices, and easier to install and maintain than Nextcloud. I’m not sure if it ticks all your boxes, though?
I second Wallabag — IMO “slick” is a nice-to-have, not a must-have when weighing software choices against each other.
At least Wallabag has a long and robust track record of not selling users out to bullshit tech corpos. That counts for more in my book than shiny surfaces.
Ah, great work cornering the market. Let the "AI"s have it then.
So fork the latest enshittifree release, setup your own web app, pretend nothing has changed?
I switched to the fork as soon as I read this news. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes:
More like Wordpress where you can choose between their hosted version or install your own instance. But yeah, these days even Wordpress is less of a shining example than it was this time last year.
I hope the catch is that everyone who tries to install it from github gets ransomwared.
Bonus if it also rickrolls them all the while.
The quality about the fediverse that I appreciate the most is the fact that nobody on any of its platforms raised an eyebrow at having a rainbow-coloured pentagram for a logo, until the first Twitter exodus when some newcomer primed for spotting the mildest of outrage-by-proxy gasped, “Have you seen this? Somebody might get upset!”
Meanwhile, the pentagram has been warding off hyperbolic fundamentalists since 2018. The fediverse is much chiller without them. 🤘
Yes please!
…and this latest proposal certainly isn’t either of those things.
This logo is really unpopular
Source? I’ve only ever seen a handful of strawman arguments that “I’m not offended by the vague resemblance to a pentagram/use of rainbow colours implying LGBTQ+ support, but somebody might be”, but its fairly wide adoption suggests that most people — myself included — actually like it.
Well played 👏😄
Exactly. A logo isn’t meant to work at 11 point size in the middle of inline text. The typographical argument is nonsense, and I think this proposal is really a reaction to the idiotic “Satanic panic” over the rainbow pentacle.
What else!? 🏅
Sorry, they have a separate one for Lemmy! Got my wires crossed.
