  • We need a way to make self hosting super easy without needing additional infrastructure. Like use my account here with my broad spectrum of posts and comments as initial credentials for a distributed DNS name and certificate authority combined with a preconfigured ISO for a Rπ or similar hardware. The whole thing should not take manual intervention for automatically updating and should just run any federated services. Then places like LW are a bridge for people to migrate to their own distributed hosting even when they lack the interest or chops to self host. I don’t see why we need to rely on the infrastructure of the old internet as a barrier to entry. I bet there are an order of magnitude more people that would toss a Rπ on their network and self host if it was made super easy, did not require manual intervention, and does not dump them into the spaghetti of networking, OS, and server configuration/security. Federated self hosting should be as simple as using a mobile app to save and view pictures or browse the internet.

  • Oh no, he was dumb, she was super into me then. He wasn’t consoling or anything but saying she was not pretty enough for me. I liked her for her depth and interests. He was a curiosity because he was into videography before YT, but had no depth beyond that one interest at the time. He had a misogynistic conquest like disposition that I do not share. At the time, this disposition was something I did not understand.

  • I really liked a girl, asked her out once when I was way too young. Had a friend tagging along. After, he said I could do better. The guy was an idiot, but the words had an impact on me at the time. I forget about her and moved on. I was super busy with a new business anyways.

Later, I started dating this other girl. Turns out she was best friends with the first. The three of us did everything together for years. I never did anything with the first, but found myself just as attached to both in a unique way. The first even dated a friend if mine for awhile. When I broke up with the second, me and the first dated for a short while, but I ended up moving out of state and things didn’t work out.

  • The little shadow tiger has decided she does not like the cold tile floor in the kitchen on her little paw pads in the mornings. So she does this little hoppy move sideways into almost a gallop before the hind legs get into as much of a hurry as the front and nearly send her rolling out of the kitchen into the safe carpet of the living room

  • I think it has a lot to do with how each of us are raised, but as a child, getting told to ‘grow up’ or when you grow up… along with concepts like don’t talk to strangers alone etc., creates this subtle perception of an age transition. I’ve come to view that bias as a subtle prejudice in a way. I think it is a common fallacy most humans around me seem to posses but seem largely unaware that it exists.

This age bias is at the heart of a lack of value placed on the young and many social expectations. It could even be a major factor in why population decline is happening in the west.

Someone wrote recently that academia is largely about forming good ideas at a young age, then spending decades trying to prove their merits and defend them. As a society we undervalue the best ideas of youth, we do not value youth or respect their autonomy and fundamental needs to thrive.

I find that funny, because I am only wearing a mask of age and am fully aware that I am still the same curious child at heart. I kept waiting for the day I would feel all growed up but that day never came, and I live my life blindly doing the best I can with the opportunities I have available.

  • Do not try to print this. I’ve done button interface design in prints before. There is a ton of actual engineering in that pad. The shape is tuned beyond the scope of anything a hobby printer is capable of functionally recreating in resolution even with resin printers. When I tried making my own buttons and button actuators, I learned this the hard way. Even the textures are super important.

When you mess with this, you will find that the tiniest of inconsistencies will be extremely frustrating because your brain expects the timing of button pushes to be the same for each direction, and rolling motions to be the same in different directions.

If you can’t find replacement parts, then look for someone selling a for-parts broken model elsewhere or cut your losses. You’ll save more money that way.

Alternatively, drill a hole in the center. Then mate up the two halves. In the plumbing section of a big box home improvement store you will find ABS cement. This is more than a glue or epoxy. There is no telling if this is fully ABS, or PC-ABS. It might say somewhere but probably not on the buttons. If it is ABS and you use cement the bond will be chemical and not just mechanical. I would not do this unless I have very good control over the potential mess, and as a last resort.

  • This is freedom. Stuff here is scraped like everywhere on the public internet, but no one is watching your dwell times and farming your every move, or experimenting on you to achieve targeted viewer retention statistics. The demographic here seems in flux at the moment. Reddit was like that too though. This is usually good book reading season for most social media and here is no exception. Lots of closed minded people and negativity pop up in my feed, but you can’t fix stupid and that is everywhere.
