Thunderbird is finally out of beta so you can get it through the play store or F-Droid. K-9 itself was also updated so it’s now basically a K-9 branded version of Thunderbird.

Isn’t this part of the auto configuration stuff? Basically there’s a standard where you can add some DNS records to your domain and/or a standard file on your website so e-mail clients can automatically prepopulate all the email settings so you only need to worry about entering your email and password.
I’m pretty sure it’s an issue on F-Droid’s end, as it’s always a few days behind for all my other apps that get released on the play store as well. IIRC they have a release process that involves them compiling the packages that takes a while to run.
The post says they’re working on releasing to F-Droid.
Looks like it’s also a variant of Synergy, so I guess it’s just the same. There’s a lot of different forks of it, I’m not sure which one is the ‘best’ these days.
Maybe to connect to their update servers and validate updated binaries or something like that? Not sure if it supported calling home to get updates.
And election campaigns only last a few weeks as opposed to the seemingly constant campaign in the US.
And parties publish manifestos with their positions on everything, as opposed to what both major parties are currently doing.
Yeah, why the hell is OP using SMS?
Yeah, those security agents can become attack vectors themselves, so running them kernel level is nuts.
Ok, from what I gather, they want to play games with keyboard and mouse, and also don’t want to use windows any more. Steam OS is designed to be controller friendly and while desktop is nice and usable, Steam OS is probably not the best desktop distro out there. The obvious solution is to install any distro (Ubuntu, Mate, PopOS, even some gaming optimised ones), but yet they seem hung up on installing steam OS for whatever reason.
Offline mode is still kind of an issue with some stuff, unfortunately.
You can use any Linux distro and install steam on it? I really don’t understand the issue you’re having. It works perfectly on pretty much any modern mainstream distro.
The reason is probably that too many people got caught liking questionable content through the likes page.
I guess the thinking is that in the past economic growth has been the way governments dealt with paying back debts (or making them look smaller as part of the GDP). Instead of raising taxes or issuing currency to pay back debt, you’d grow the tax base by growing the economy.
MMT is currently challenging this thinking obviously, and the answer to this (as with every other challenge we’re facing, like inequality, pollution, corruption, …) is taxing the rich, not somehow procreating more.
If managed well, a slowly shrinking population can be managed without too much issues and would allow us to live within our planetary means, which are the real contraints on the economy and our survival.
He’s probably one of the ones that made bank selling, unfortunately.
It’s better than the US one, but it’s just worse compared to the European ones. It’s hard to get them aligned in the dark/behind furniture, but at least it won’t fall out by itself.
The most useful automations I personally have are rules to control the AC. It basically only kicks in if it’s too hot or too cold, and I set it to turn off if I leave the house or at night. Basically saves money, and removes the need to use the remote control.
There’s more stuff I’d like to do (like controlling lights and house fans), but that’s definitely less urgent to me.
Yeah, except there’s no way the owners would give up any of the profits for the betterment of society. Every technological improvement since the industrial revolution made productivity skyrocket, and yet the capitalists made sure working people were still hovering just above destitution. The only reason some of us have it better is because unions fought them, and that includes Luddites that would destroy the means of production.
Generally people make a huge issue out of something like that (some will even call it spyware, etc).
I think the best approach is to ask the actual community of users what they’re ok with before you start. You probably want to make sure it’s opt-in as opposed to opt-out, and be very clear about what information you do and don’t collect, and make sure it’s stored securely.
K-9 is probably an Android only client? They’d have to either find an open source iOS app to build on, or build a new one from scratch.
