jrbaconcheese@yall.theatl.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what are some of the best purchases you've made ?English2·2 years agoThanks for the tip, i didn’t actually 100% understand what proxmox was until you said that it is a hypervisor.
I have a NUC that I accidentally stole from my last job that may become my hobby PC. I will probably try a distro on bare metal to get my feet wet but then take it to there. Or maybe a USB distro to start? I haven’t put much thought into it yet.
jrbaconcheese@yall.theatl.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what are some of the best purchases you've made ?English5·2 years agoI went from 212j to 920+ and it’s night and day in terms of what it can do. It was also $400 more so there is that.
It has been a fun hobby to nerd out learning Docker, networking magic, VPNs, and such. It may tun into full-blown Linux on a PC at some point.
jrbaconcheese@yall.theatl.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what are some of the best purchases you've made ?English141·2 years agoIf you got one with a decent CPU it’s also quite the little workhorse of a home server via its apps and Docker.

Our family found a similar drawer in a vacation home and laughed about it; then we got home and realized how often you just need one of those and it’s great to have one right there!

jrbaconcheese@yall.theatl.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Will the world ever stop being anti-intellectual?English5·2 years agoIs it anti-morality or anti-intellectualism you were concerned with? Now I’m confused.
jrbaconcheese@yall.theatl.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Will the world ever stop being anti-intellectual?English4·2 years agoIt was but OPs replies seem to confirm it.
jrbaconcheese@yall.theatl.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Will the world ever stop being anti-intellectual?English2·2 years agoTo follow-up my snarky reply What if we’re the bad guys here?-NYTimes OpEd (non-paywall) This has a good take on how being “intellectual” is potentially an elitist take.
jrbaconcheese@yall.theatl.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Will the world ever stop being anti-intellectual?English3·2 years agoNo disagreement there, but simply declaring that “those who don’t see things my way are anti-intellectual” is a drastic over-simplification of how things got this way. Declaring it into Lemmy, which an echo chamber of progressives and communists (including myself) means we all know who he’s talking about, which means it’s just a progressive dog-whistle for the “them” that we want to be mad at.
There are a lot of intelligent people who hold what I’m sure OP would consider anti-intellectual stances. I live around them, work with them, play games with them, etc. it’s much more valuable to understand who they are and how they got to their beliefs than it is to simply vilify them.
jrbaconcheese@yall.theatl.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Will the world ever stop being anti-intellectual?English188·2 years agoThis smells like someone who considers himself an “intellectual” and is sick of people disagreeing with him.
