klemptor@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What language courses did they have in your country’s schools?21·1 month agoFrench and Spanish only at my first high school (NJ), and French, Spanish, and German at my second high school (PA so the inclusion of German makes sense).
klemptor@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you a feminist? (If so why, if not why not?)103·2 months agoI am a staunch second-wave feminist. I believe in equal rights and equal respect for men and women and everyone else who doesn’t fit into that binary, and that all should be able to work toward the life that suits them best without worrying about traditional gender roles.
It makes me sad to see women who are quick to say they’re not a feminist, because they certainly benefit from feminism and I think they’d be rightly enraged if that went away. If they lost the right to vote, to have a bank account or own a home, to pursue whatever education interests them and work in that field, to choose whether/when/how to have children (RIP Roe v Wade), etc. I think a lot of women take a lot of these things for granted, but they exist because of feminism.
Sadly, I think the term ‘feminism’ has been successfully demonized in online spaces, to the point that many think it’s the same as feminazi. In part this is because the most awful and vocal part of any movement draws a lot of negative attention, and subsequently those who are against equality for women can use feminazis as a boogeyman to denigrate the feminist movement.
klemptor@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movie did you see too young that still haunts you to this day?7·2 months agoThey showed us 4 Rooms at summer camp when it had just come out on VHS. I was 13 but pretty sheltered and that movie was kind of nuts.
klemptor@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you lose alot of fat quickly with no exercise?31·3 months agoIs this a serious question?
Look if you don’t care about your health, you can crash diet, sure, but you’ll lose water weight first, and then will lose muscle alongside the fat, especially if you don’t exercise. You will also feel miserable and will make others feel miserable being around you. And you’ll most likely pack it back on when you quit the diet.
klemptor@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you lose alot of fat quickly with no exercise?2·3 months agoOP said no exercise.
I don’t generally drink soda but when i do, birch beer is my favorite; second favorites are Dr. Pepper, cream soda, and cranberry ginger ale.
klemptor@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How good are you at making eye contact with people1·3 months agoI hate it. I don’t personally want any eye contact, so I don’t know how much eye contact is the right amount, and I end up making brief eye contact because I know I should, then looking away because it’s uncomfortable and I don’t want it to be too much. And I lose my train of thought in the process. It’s so much easier to talk to people if I can look in their general direction but not in their eyes.
My arms are pretty flexible so I just use my hands & a washcloth.
“People don’t have pensions anymore?”
No, Mom, we don’t.

klemptor@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it bad that I'm not graduating on time?9·5 months agoDon’t compare yourself with others - comparison is the thief of joy. And those people who have graduated are probably trying to get jobs right now. Have you seen the current job market? It’s fucking insane. I don’t know that it’ll be any better in 7 months but I wouldn’t want to be looking for a job right now. Enjoy your reprieve.
Animé from ages 15-18. It was the mid-to-late '90s and only the weird kids were into animé. My social life improved immensely when I grew out of that phase.
- Watching the blue jays at my bird feeder & birdbath
- My first sip of tea in the morning
- '60s music
- Dogs and cats
- Also horses - I moved to an area with a lot of horse farms and, from my second floor windows, sometimes I can see a horse or two hanging out in a paddock a couple of hills away
- Fun new makeup (one of my most recent new palettes is this:)
If I were single and they* were secure, then sure. I really feel for a lot of trans people because I know the transition can cause a lot of insecurity. And that’s absolutely valid and I don’t want to be unfeeling about it, but at the same time I know myself and I don’t want a partner who is insecure and potentially overly emotionally needy, because I’m not good at providing that kind of support. So I’d be fine dating a trans person who is confident and secure, no matter where in the transition the person is.
* I say ‘they’ because I’m fine dating either men or women, not because I want to invalidate anyone’s gender :)
