I have no idea where that data comes from and that’s exactly the point I’m making. It doesn’t match my personal experience at all.

I build the infrastructure that these data centers need to connect to the internet. Our projected power consumption is at least tripling from last year which was itself double the year before, and that’s only the power draw for the fiber optic infrastructure connecting these data centers together. They’re also building a ridiculous amount of computing power in those data centers which is another massive increase in power consumption.

There are some kind-of green efforts in progress to mitigate a bit of the environmental impacts of that increase in demand but most of what I have seen personally is just more draw from the local utility company. I have serious doubts about any data that indicates that tripling power consumption is not a major environmental problem.

It’s Facebook dude. To put it in Lemmy friendly terms, they’re not different entities in the way that Linux and Windows are. They’re different entities in the same way that Windows and Xbox are. It’s not technically the same thing but it’s the same people calling the shots. Expecting something different is only going to leave you disappointed.

That’s just how people are now. I don’t think it’s specific to Lemmy or even the internet. Most people don’t know how to have a discussion where lines are more blurry than a formal debate that has two opposing sides with completely separate, non-overlapping ideas.

Get a stabilizer bar for your extension ladder. It makes them much more stable and all the ones I’ve seen had padded feet on the ends which will also keep you from scratching up the wall.

Assuming this is on its own circuit and you’ve got the space in your panel you could make whatever repairs to the conduit you think are practical and then swap the breaker for an arc fault circuit interruptor (AFCI). That should trip under any failure conditions you are likely to experience but it won’t stop the problem from getting worse. It’s not up to code either but I wouldn’t be too concerned about it under those conditions. That’s also assuming the wire run you can see during your repairs seems to be in decent shape.

There’s really no substitute for digging it up and replacing the whole damaged section of conduit but my suggestion would be a serviceable solution if that is untenable for some reason. It certainly doesn’t come without risks but neither does the situation you’re currently in.

You can try to tap the boards together with a hammer and the pry tool that you used to install the boards. However, that only really works if the boards are properly connected but not fully seated.

It looks like the two in the pic are not connected at all and they’re just sitting next to each other. In that case you’d have to disassemble the floor and make sure to attach them correctly. It’s not terribly time consuming if you don’t have to cut any new pieces.
