It’s possible to remove DRM from books using software like calibre and thats not even getting into how easy it is to pirate due to the small filesize if you ever need to recover a lost book. Then you can back it up and copy onto other storage devices and the cloud which in some ways makes the digital copy more long lasting than a physical book.

This is the same for me. I love the tactile feeling of books, I love the smell, the weight, the aesthetic and the idea.

They take up so much space though and that can make them a hassle to access. I also like to read in bed which means I need something that can make it’s own light, and I like the versatility digital books have in font size and in the case. Especially as a comic reader where you have weekly and monthly issues or chunky volumes it adds up quickly.

Just buy a camera. Searching for consensus on this you’ll find people online telling you “well who needs a point and shoot, modern cameras are good enough, the camera you have is better than the good camera you leave at home” and etc, but for under $500 you can get a used or even new decent point and portable digital camera(similar form factor to what everyone had in the early to mid 00s) and it will fit in your pocket, bag, around neck and mop the floor with any cell phone camera when photographing anything you have to zoom in on.

Depending on what you buy you’ll of course have more of a learning curve compared to the ai, but it wont have that over sharpened ai enhanced oil painting look that phone cameras give you when you zoom in a little, and yes the results can be much better. You can take snapshots with fast shutter of birds in flight, stop a helicopters blades, capture precipitation, and of course zoom in a little into things that the cell phone camera would poop itself trying to capture.

Plus if you just want to sync data there are already plenty of cloud based and data syncing services that can fulfill that without needing a phone laptop.

That said with USB C based devices in theory you should be able to use use an adapter in order to plug in an hdmi, and mouse and keyboard(or use a bluetuth one)

Ah man it’s depressing watching the fall of google. From my gmail beta account which was incredible to do no evil, google are great, theyre open, to so many cancelled projects replaced by similar ones(ehem chats and video chats) and so much bad behavior with their ads.

I remember what you are and how you locked down the web when you had a chance. Personally I dont use chrome for the same reason given the direction google has been heading.

yeah it’s just zoomed in, discolored, and wet/squished. Poor thing. Theyre unnerving at first but once you get used to them you can think of them as eyelashes gliding around the floor.

Awesome news as arm laptops become more and more viable. I still have hope that competition will get x86 better and better in terms of efficiency, but its great that options will continue to exist and that if the transition ever happens full we will have options to make it seamless.

Yeah most games are plug and play though every once in a while I find I need to switch to an older proton version to get something to work better.

From what Ive heard the issues with Nvidia on linux are less about proton not working and more about the closed source drivers being a little more effort to install, and causing issues with more bleeding edge and rolling distros because nvidia drags its feet on supporting the newer features and standards. Plenty of people use Nvidia on linux and it does come with benefits as well such as better video decoding and encoding, better work drivers, and since its not foss they can just support HDMI 2.1’s closed nonsense without having to worry about stepping on toes.

I dont use Nvidia so I cant say for sure but I feel like the solution to the typical “oh no I ran an update and everything is broken!” is to just use a stable/lts distro.

Yeah movie and tv have the director keeping the things that are meant to be in focus in focus and the the lens blur can create an aesthetic and emulate an eyes field of vision. Even then sometimes if there is a lot of camera movement it isnt great.

With games you’re in control of the camera and youre taking in a lot of visual data from all over the screen in a way that movie and tv shows dont.

10s of Millions of people in the united states live in multifamily housing. You’re responding to concepts like multifamily housing and public transit as if these are abstracts that huge numbers of americans dont already rely on. There are plenty of areas with bad infrastructure today for this, but thats all the more reason to improve. More missing middle density housing is important to make housing more affordable and improve density and supply.

We can certainly use better and actual proper public housing options like in places like the netherlands, and better renter protections to keep a landlord from upping your rent too much, but thats all the more reason to push forwards.
