Yes. The American populace has very low political IQ, a short memory, and is very emotional. 2001 was 23 years ago, entire people were conceived, raised, and voted in that time. You have to understand that the majority of control of this country is decided on whims, opinions, and gas prices

America doesn’t know how to discuss politics. We understand sports and can talk about politics as if they were sports, but we won’t learn a lesson until there are opposing troops on our doorstep (and honestly, I don’t think we will then)

Founder’s Day. That movie fucking sucks. To quote Community “if you conspire with everyone then there’s no conspiracy, you’re just helping people.” Everyone seems to be betraying everyone for no discernable gain, none of the actors seem to be aware that they’re in the same genre as their costars, and it’s never clear whose side your on. Finally the mastermind of this scheme has what I call “the Palpatine problem.” If you’re capable of manipulating every side of a conflict in such a way that they all die and you’re left in power… aren’t you already effectively in control of everything? And isn’t it smarter to rule behind the scenes where you don’t have a target on your back AND you aren’t responsible for a bunch of serious crimes AND is it really important to you to explain your grand plans to a teenager? What do you gain from setting these events in motion? It’s a stupid ass movie, and I watch a lot of movies

However, this is kind of exactly what I’m talking about. You’re saying I can use plex, or jellyfin, or kodi, with all the opperating systems (but not?) and you say I can stream to smart TVs, are Chromecasts smart? I can follow instructions, I just don’t understand how this technology stack works together. Nobody even tells me what Linux distro to use!

I’m fed up with streaming platforms and want to turn an old PC into a pirate movie streaming server. It’d be nice to have a detailed guide on what services to use, how to get it to stream to devices, and how to set up a VPN. I assume a Linux distro makes the most sense but I have no platform alleigence. I’m generally pretty competent with computers but I’d like the guide to assume I know nothing about Linux, because I my only experience is with my steam deck

Maybe it is actually cursed. The curse is that while you wear it your life goes by faster but if you remove it you slow down. Most people get too greedy and slow their life to a standstill but you are actually using it perfectly to enjoy your free time at night and less time during your work

That’s my point about civility. I think you can have the conversations, but almost every parent I know says that their children are their greatest achievement and that they are the best part of their life. You’re inviting people in who fundamentally disagree with that and a lot of people take it pretty personally when you call the most important thing in their life a moral failure. I just don’t imagine /c/parenting users come here to be lambasted and I doubt it’s good for growing the community as well

As a child free person myself I don’t think you want to invite that here. Not to say it’d be uncivil but some of our reasons for not having children will be inherently offensive to people here and I don’t think it’d be good for the general vibe. Just an example, I’m not certain I’m going to live the rest of my life free of major strife (the global rise of fascism, climate change disasters, globe trotting plagues, etc) and I think it’s morally irresponsible to bring a child into the world. Are those conversations that you want to have here or do you want to talk about the difficulties of raising kids, the surprising joys, and the unexpected milestones?

Despite never owning one (we were a Nintendo house) I’d argue it’s the PS2. An easy thing to forget is that the PS2 was one of the cheapest DVD players for a very long time and that got video games into a lot of houses that wouldn’t have had them. Add to that some of the best games of tent pole franchises GTA3, FFX and FFXII, Kingdom Hearts, God of War, MGS3, Guitar Hero, and Tony Hawk. That generation also cemented the twin stick controller design as the standard. I really think the PS2 defined the rubric for consoles to come

If speed running counts I was once top 10 in the world for speed running a puzzle game. Since then I’ve dropped into the 20s and the video has been lost

The only reason I listen to Film Reroll is because it’s about movies. I don’t even listen to all of them, just movies I know will be fun/I’ve seen. Fifth Element, Mighty Ducks, Aliens, Last Action Hero, and Memento (which was incredibly cool how they did it) are the ones I’ve listened to since 2020.

Something about actual play just irritates me, especially for D&D. I’d just rather play myself

Which is a podcast by 2 former cracked writers which is the only reason people listen to them and a podcast about playing through movies as role playing games

Oh man, that answers some questions I’ve had for a while. Some of the podcasts I listened to have custom ad reads and then some will just blast the same ad as another unrelated one. Especially considering I get republican ads on podcasts with very liberal hosts. Plus gambling ads fucking everywhere
