Having been in company at sales time my self, I can tell you that management will say all sorts of things. But once the sale completes the new owners can do anything, that could be drop all the staff.

I my self also loved the pebble, till it all died. I did try repebble. But the android app was way past it then.

My hope is that the mobile apps get a much needed update, then all the working watches get a firmware update. If that happens, I might have to get my working watch out and setup.

I have time on a Wednesday to run updates on all the things, I also have notifications about changes to software I run.

I can recomment OVH for domains and DNS hosting, I use them and have not had any issues setting up custom DNS records. Also they have an API that will allow you to get certificates with certbot and lets encrypt, even a wildcard.

I use passkeys and find them great, mind you I know that you need at least 2 of them so you have a backup. I also use yubikeys at work and they are the same issue, you need 2 of them in case 1 breaks or gets lost.

Maybe the setup should be, make sure you have 2 passkeys on 2 different devices? but not in your password manager

You will struggle with a pi3 and 1080p, I had a pi3 for Kodi and it couldn’t run 1080p very well at all. The pi4 on the other hand, will display 1080p from a TV card just fine.

They only killed the old tach off cuz the masses moved in, in the early days (think dialup) you had only the tech savvy online. You had to wait for everything, email, blogs, news the lot. Then the alway on internet landed and all that stopped, now you can reach anyone anywhere. all the non-tech savvy joined and the mega corps saw the rich gold mine.

The real issue is the lack of tech savvy people making small sites, the mega corps have the platforms and thats where everyone went. Its cheap and easy to be on a mega platform then to run your own site, anyone who does run a site will not see much traffic as its hidden by the big names

Not sure the mega corps have it all, there are still small sites that people run, I my self run some stuff. My lemme instance for 1.

The way I see it, is the mega corps have the budget to make hosting with them cheaper that running at home.
