Thanks for the article. I think the operating word here is “can”. They can be much faster than existing transistors. The article seems to indicate it isn’t there yet, so by extension this recent development might not be.
But there is hope!

I don’t have time for this but would be great to see the tournament streamed live! (So that I can watch the replay 😅)
“What are TOPS” introduced me to what the hell they are. 160 is not bad. NVIDIA’s mobile GPUs reach 1000 TOPS, while AMD, Intel, Snapdragon and M3s top out at 40 TOPS.
Not sure how this photonic chiplets will fit into the equation, maybe a separate chip for laptops without discrete GPUs?
How can these be compared to existing chips? Photonic, yes, but how fast can they switch and make calculations? What does a photonic transistor even look like / work?
Your comments completely lack empathy, wow. If you were in Snowden!s shoes, I bet you’d have folded to Russia at their first threat. “Visa or plane to Washington” and that would’ve been the and of it.
But because you are the big tough guy on the internet, Snowden is weak willed. You, the Alpha Moonchild would’ve resisted Russia in their prison and died like Navalni, with your head held high after they tortured your girlfriend in front of you. A true martyr baths in the glory and knowledge that their cause is just and true.
Your death would’ve driven all Americans and Europeans onto the streets! It would’ve been the flint to light the fire of a generation ♨️ like a true Scotsman, a patriot, a fearless defender of truth, morals, and internet tough guys!🫡
We all respect your hypothetical sacrifice and moral superiority. Long may it live in our memories.
What does it solve? I remember reading it was supposed to make the web easier, but it’s just another transport and one could push JS, CSS, WASM, or anything through it. One could even extend chromium to support it as an alternative to HTTP.
I’m not entirely sure of its purpose.
This is awesome. Finally an experimental browser that tries to do something differently.
It’s able to parse HTML and CSS and put stuff on the screen + it’s dynamic. It’s like the web in 2005 or something and written by one dude.
Love projects like these. It could actually be the basis for something.
Probably a minimal environment that streams the desktop to you. Must be the smallest windows install on a local PC ever.
Linux (TuxedoComputers, slimbook, starlabsystems, …), Nextcloud/Owncloud, LibreOffice, GCompris, etc.
inb4 “impossible”: wrong, Kerala is a great example of how that works
inb4 “not western”: a German secondary school is another example.
Schools need to stop buying Microshit stuff. They help create a new generation of M$ drones.
That dude who predicted Windows 12 being a cloud OS was probably dead on the money.
Further proof that “business leaders” don’t know what the fuck they are doing either. Their salaries shouldn’t be higher than ours.
The ever-present reason 👍
Why would steam allow games on their store that don’t work without another third party account or store?
Congrats to the UK and its citizens!
O… K? How is that relevant?
The first or second paragraph should’ve said “ASML generates 250W EUV finally ending up 5W EUV due to reflection, whereas this will end up with 1kW EUV for chip production”. It wasn’t clear at all why they were doing this until 3/4 through the article. And I assume it’s 1kW EUV as the source and with less mirrors possibly 20W or more on the wafer (?).
Maybe I missed it, but it doesn’t mention the amount of energy required to end up with this 20W EUV beam. A particle accelerator probably uses more, but maybe the productivity balances out the efficiency?
People mocked China, but here we are. Surveillance capitalism looked at that country and said “we can do better”.
But people are fine with it because “I have nothing to hide” makes sense to them or they simply don’t care - until something happens to them.
Do I need to know much about you? You’re judging Snowden as if you’d had fared better in his situation. You portray the situation as if his life were not on the line and he were on vacation in Russia.
